Hi,

I'm assuming you're talking about the title and description?
Firstly, there is a length factor, to ensure Google does use them:

Your titles shouldn't be longer than 70 characters.
Your meta description should be limited to 140 characters.

Then the most important thing is to make them attractive to increase your click-through rate.

Well if you are talking about Title and Description there is one particular benefit. These meta tags are used by Search Engines to determine what should they show in research result page when your website show up in the search results.

If you use catchy description and title more people will click on your site, you will get more visitors and make more sale.

yeah technically done right, after that catchy title which i've been studying
If you look at titles especially number one spot holders it gives you a idea on how they should look. just like a opening line to your favorite song, same concept. the hook in songwriters terms.

Title is NOT a meta tag. There is a very old fashioned,
out of date meta title. Last used about 1997....

This gets mixed up quite frequently on the WF. Not sure
why. Anyone should know that the title tag is not a meta tag.

BTW: You most assuredly do not want a catchy title. You
want what people are searching for. You want a precise
title of what your page is about.

Your title can be any length you want. Google readily
and happily indexes more than 70 characters...

Not sure why people do not even know some of this basic stuff.

But then, that would explain all the penguin threads...
