Feeder Site --- Totally Dangerous ?

Ok this is the deal.
I create all my own products. I try to rank the sales pages, and I also create many "Feeder" sites that provide traffic to my sales pages.
For the feeder sites: what I do is create content-based sites with large banner ads that entice people to click the ads to visit my money site.

Many of these feeder sites have been hit by Penguin, and a lot of their backlink profiels look decent -- not overoptimized for certain terms..
So now I am thinking that its just the sites themselves! They link only to ONE site and they also have several articles on redundant content.
I know they were hit on the 24th.... as I watch it all happen.
SO what are your thoughts? Do you think them being hit was due to their onsite content?
I mean -- could G have viewed these as blog network sites?
