In fact, when Google rolls out these updates ..most people are not directly hit by the update, but rather they simply lose value on some of links that point to them.

So for example, if on April 24th or May 25th you only dropped a few places and only on certain keywords ...chances are you were not hit by penguin.

If you dropped on April 24th or May 25th, for all keywords across the board and are not even ranking for "intitle" or branded terms then you probably were hit by penguin.
