Any Suggestions On SEO Server Move Disaster

In December 2011, I moved server from a legacy US based GoDaddy server to one of their new servers in Europe.

I did this in order to be able to access upto date features which weren't available on the old server e.g. the latest version of WordPress and also to use as a sub-domain under a hosting package which allows multiple domains.

Fast forward six months and I have realised my Google traffic has crashed from 780 to 28 units according to SEMRush. I am not sure exactly what the units are but this shows you the collapse in the level of the traffic.

Most of the traffic was from the US. GoDaddy support says it has to do with the move in IP address. And my webmaster says also traffic speeds are slower with the new server.

So, my question is what advice do you have for me going forward.

1. Should I consider moving the server back to the US either with GoDaddy or another provider
2. What can I do to get back to the earlier levels of traffic.
3. Is it better to have the site as its own domain name rather than as a sub-domain e.g. to potentially sell later and for better performance etc.

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks
