  • 8 affiliate links in ONE post? Yes im positive this isn't helping your rankings at all. I would be using 1 or 2 tops.

But doesn't Patt Flynn from Smartpassiveicome.com have a resources page with like 20 things you need as an entrepreneur which are all basically affiliate links to products he is pushing?

Chris Ducker does the same thing on his site. I guess if these guys are doing it, they obviously know what they are doing. However, is a page any different than a post? I guess there is the question now.

Yes. I personally wouldn't put 8 affiliate links on the same page let alone in 1 post. My limit would be about 3-5 per page. 1-2 per post

    Best of luck

right it's been like these for a couple weeks, can I recover from this If I just leave 3-4. The 2 posts right below that one have 3 and 5, so that's 16 on my home page.... so too much. What would be the max? 3 on the first and 1 on each of the following posts?

You didn't attach anything to the post? I can't see your website here.

It does sound like you're over monetizing your site, though. If your rankings aren't suffering the user experience sure will.

Well, my conversion rates are low both with the affiliate free trial and the adsense. Or so it seems, I get about 200 visitors per day, about 30 of those from organic searches. I've only had 5 leads on my affiliate and 7 clicks on the adsense, in 3 weeks is this normal/average?

It's in spanish btw, so if interested you could use chrome translate to have an idea of what it says.

        thanks!

Wow, this got me really nervous. I got a website where I'm basically listing books. To show people the reading order of a certain book series. It's a niche site, so I've been using affiliate links to Amazon, in every book. In some posts I've listed 10-15 books, which means 10-15 affiliate links.

So if this hurts my rankings, how else am I supposed to do it? Many are searching for certain reading orders so I wouldn't want to get rid of these posts.

Anyone who could help me out here?

Well, it's a fairly new website but I'm ranking at top 10 in a couple of keywords. My niche site is not specified at only one keyword but many different.

As it is right now I haven't been punished for many affiliate links in my posts. But if people in this thread are right then I might be in a risky position.

I'm sure Google does not like a page that is "affiliate spam" and I think 8 qualifes as spammy. Just put a call to action (affiliate) link in the beginning, middle, and ending part of of your page. That will give the reader ample opportunity to click out no matter where they are on your page.

Help the visitor with unbiased information. Pros and cons. Work on getting more traffic rather than flooding your page with affiliate links.

Find other easy to rank for keywords and build pages around those phrases. You'll rank faster. You'll have more buying (long tail) keywords. You'll build more relevant pages. You'll look more "authoritative."

Sorry for the delayed response "eduguate":

There is no rule as whether to use all text links or image links. But, just for the "engaging" factor, use a text link, image link, then text link. The image makes it refreshing to look at. If you could put a call to action in the image or below the image that would be better, i.e. "Click Here"

My 3 last posts are reviews of similar products, but I have about 10 posts on the page. So just limit it to 3 links per post or should I remove the other 2 reviews, which havent converted at all after a few weeks?

    thanks!

It wont only affect your SEO Ranking it would also affect your conversion rate.
    The reason is because:
    1. The rule of thumb is that for a review article it is better to have maximum of three affiliate links, one at the beginning, one in the middle and one at the end. (All as Anchor)
    2. Having 8 affiliate links makes your article look spammy and can easily piss off your potential customers because they sense it easily that you want to force them to buy something. (They will rather go directly to the site and buy than use your link)
    3. Having too much of affiliate links may also affect your article structures as it will prevent the flow of your message in the article so therefore forcing you into a selling mode.
In terms of ranking, yes you may be lucky to get away with it since it is onpage, but how do you expect such article to rank when there is no buzz around it? the buzz can only be created via reasonable backlinks structure to the article, social exposures and more like that.
And finally, the best way to go about it is to make your articles communicate the right message to your readers, don't present your articles to your readers as if you are selling to them, make it sound natural, let the message flow, make them know you are trying to help them make a decision and not force a product down there throat.
If you stick to this little rule of thumb, I am sure it will help your seo ranking and your conversion ratio too.

Right I made all the changes suggested and left 3 anchor text links per post, I still left in the pictures, but I'm not sure if there's something else giving me the low conversion rates. Here's my website, let me know what you think...

I checked your site and I think it looks good with what looks like (I don`t know Spanish) good content but something funky is going on clear at the bottom of your site. Things are all jumbled up.

hmmm, is it like paragraphs going to the edge of the page? or is it the widgets? I don't see it on my browser right now, but I've had problems like that with this theme before. Thanks for the notice I will check it with other browsers and see what's going on.

I use Firefox. The words were like over lapping and images. And if I remember right there were black spaces also. Hope you get it figured out. Sometimes web development can be pretty frustrating.

Add nofollow tag to your affiliate links, I hope (almost sure) that will not do any harm and it is very safe , if you do so, you do not have to worry about our big G... Google or other search engines and rankings..

@OP your site looks good, but as a perfectionist those boxes behind the ads bug me and if I were the site owner I would have to fix that...

If you plan on keeping those ads up I would either A. Delete the box behind the ads or B. make them bigger.

It's a quick fix I don't know how much CSS experience you have but I am sure this is a template obviously, all you would have to do is go to apperance/editor in your WP dashboard, usually the first file is the style.CSS in my case it is, if not in yours then just locate it over in the right panel.

Most themes have a widget section in the CSS identify that section and look for the png file. either edit it photoshop to make it bigger or just delete it.

I would advise you to make 8 different blogs for 8 different affiliate links and then promote them to get the top ranking for those blogs. This way you would never be affected by the spamming issues.

Why don't you put the affiliate links into redirect pages, put them in a different folder and put a no index tag on them. You could then block the folder from Google in your robots file. To be super safe make sure the redirect page stays visible for 5 seconds as Google will find this acceptable but that is only in the unlikely case that that they manage to crawl these pages.

You redirect page should be something like - Thanks for visiting please wait whilst we sent you accross to whateverdotcom and make sure it opens up in a new window so if the can't find what they like then they still have your page open in the browser. I have sites with up to 20 of these types of links on the page and they have worked great for me in the past. This also helps reduce the bounce rate on your site too.

yes of course it will hurt your site. You can put 1 or 2 at max for the proper benefit. More than that could be counted as spam.

I have a bunch of affiliate pages, each with 4 to 20 affiliate links to Amazon.com, ranking on the first page of Google for a couple of years.

No redirects, no cloaking, just nofollow the affiliate links like you do for any link you receive compensation for (in the white hat world at least).

What Google wants in an affiliate page is one that provides genuine value - the pages I have are all written by actual experts in the relevant areas. The information contained within can't be retrieved from Amazon or the manufacturer - it's original analysis and opinion. We even go as far as to take our own photographs on many occasions.

I will also add that these pages are on Authority sites - I don't know what happens on non-authority sites.
