Duplicate Content? Http and Https

Let's say a website has SSL certificate installed, and Google index both http and https versions, is it considered as duplicate content? Thanks in advance.

  • If google index your pages with https then redirect them on global version whether you want http or https pages in search engines or else it won't work then use canonical tag to solve the issue. Wish you good luck!

  • No, there won't be any duplicate issue... the https version is for secure browsing.. Thus it is highly unlikely for a crawler to be able to discover the https version. Though http version is still easily discovered by crawler.. But the https part requires authentication and a crawler is unable to authenticate as a human.. That's why the https part is not found by a crawler.

    • Not sure if ahref's crawler is more advanced than Google crawler, but ahref's crawler did pick up the https pages....

      Spiders/bots can read and index https pages just fine, so long as they aren't password protected.
