How Does Google Look At Redirects

I have website A that is an exact domain name match for a good longtail keyword.
On its own it would get a lot of traffic.

However I am going to redirect it to website B (I think its called a 302 redirect).

Will google still give me credit for the exact domain name match? Or just base it on the keywords on Website B's page?

use 301 redirection. Because 302 is used for temporary redirection. 301 is a good way to inform about the new domain when the search engine crawl the old domain.

If you use 301 redirect (permanent one) you will pass PR and link juice to redirected site.

    Hi denutza,

Google will totally ignore all content on Website A and only consider signals from Website B. So no, you get no benefit for the domain from redirecting A to B.

I'm using the Redirection plug-in on WordPress for my 301 redirects. I was under the impression that eventually Google would only crawl the target site and not the original site that was redirected. Yet, even with some of my redirects that are over 2 years old, I see the old site has been crawled as recently as a couple days ago. Why would this be? Thanks.

      Hi dancroop,

The Googlebot follows links, as long as you still have links pointing to the old URLs, you will get visits from the Googlebot.
