Question on SEO competition

If the SEO competition marked by Market Samurai or some other KW research program shows values that are outrageous: 100,000 / 500,000 / 1,000,000 / 5,000,000, BUT, if the SERPS in the google show results sites like amazon, home depot, best buy, ebay, radio shack, etc. then is this 'easy' competition and or 'takeable'?

Does this mean that SEO competition matters, but, doesn't 'really' matter unless you look at it closely?

There are also no wikipedia sites on these keywords describing it (No good content?).

There were no other signs of sites trying to do on page optimization aside from the selling sites.

We don't know which keywords give you business but we assume that this keywords has good competition as well as searches according to keyword research tool.

If any person living in London and want plumber service then he/she will type like

    "Plumber in London"
    "plumber service in London"
"best plumber service in London" etc..

Above those all are business generated keywords.I hope this does help you.

    Thanks

If you are pertaining to SERP, yes SEO really matters because it's always a race to the top when your website is listed in the SERP.

SEO in general has natural competition whether you are handling an ecommerce or information website because you will always up against other websites in the same field.

I wouldn't put too much weight into a metric on a keyword tool. None of them are perfect and when something looks "fishy" it usually means you're finding a hole in that specific tool. I use tools to find possible winning keyword phrases and then investigate further myself manually.

You can't just focus on the amount of competing pages, that should just be a fraction of what you look at. Finding that average PR of the sites on the first page and the back links they have is also important. A good software to help you with this is traffic travis, it gives a reasonably accurate competition tool.

What if the top 10 has over maybe 100k backlinks but are sites like 'wiki' with only 1 page of content / less than 500 words when my site has 3k + words?
