Thats a nice list. For me the easiest way is to diversify my anchor texts by simply putting myself in searches shoe.

For example, if I am optimizing for "make money online". I would think what other words I would use if I was searching for make money online?...
How to make money online, make money on the web, internet money making, online money making,...

This is exactly how I vary my keywords and get credit for my keyword that I am actually trying to rank for.

I don;t use "click here" or any other stuff I saw spammers doing....

I do use backhat method for backlinks thought (This is for high pr website that are strict with comments for backlinks)

      example:

Quick question: In my anchor text for links directly to my site, do I use my main keyword or do I do 50 - 50 different or just different all together?

I see people doing anchor text like "click here" or "go here" but doesn't that hurt you?

Well, you shouldn't be using only your main keyword.

What many SEO experts recommend is a combination as follows:

      30% your main keyword
30% long tail phrases that contain your main keyword
      30% with your website URL
      10% with other generic terms.

Well, using generic anchor text like "click here", etc. won't really hurt you. It'll just dilute the power of your backlink profile. But to a certain extent, this is good because the recent Google filter penalizes sites that are too overly optimized for their main keyword.

That's why in addition to using your main keyword, you should use various other keywords as well so that your link building portfolio looks more natural.

No it doesn't hurt you, but try to use like this for example if your main keyword is "Rank"

      get rank here
      go for rank
      get rank
      etc...

You have got to be kidding.

I see you did not follow much of that
      in your spammed link.

Repeat: You have got to be kidding.

Okay, let's add to the list!

How about my top 10, a la Letterman!

Using your obnoxious neighbor's phone number
Pick 5 random words from the dictionary
      Your favorite TV program
The same anchor as someone's sig in the WF
The page title in pig latin
Most searched for phrase on yahoo today
Using, "I'm a friend of Jerry Sandusky"
I dare you not to click here
Don't even think of clicking this link
"This link is spam" (why bother hiding?)

Yeah, I'm getting pretty tired of all this 2% keyword density this 5.34556% density that, 50% ratio here 50% ratio there, and don't forget that the page must have an exact minimum of 500 words in order to rank

No offence to the OP, vary anchor text is a must, but some people are becoming to critical.

Thank you Allen I like the post alot when I read it. I just have 1 last question about the diversity.

    So

    30% your main keyword
30% long tail phrases that contain your main keyword
    30% with your website URL
    10% with other generic terms.

    30% "dog training"
    30% "super dog training"
    30% "dogtraining.co"
    10% "click here"

If I had 1,000 links it would look like this?

300 BL with anchor of 'dog training'
300 BL with anchor of 'super dog training'
300 BL with anchor of 'dogtraining.co'
100 BL with anchor of 'click here'

I'm not gonna have those numbers exactly of course; example only

Well, I would do something more like this.

300 BL with anchor of 'dog training'
300 BL with anchor of 'super dog training | best dog training | great dog training '
      300 BL with anchor of 'dogtraining.co | h t t p://dogtraining.co'
100 BL with anchor of 'click here | click here now | click here quick'

Try to vary the things you can vary using some of the ideas in the list above.

Why bother putting percentages in diversifying anchor texts?! Just give priority to your main keywords and just don't forget to mention the others including your website's URL and that's it!
