Using bookmarks as backlinks

If I publish an article, then submit that article to a bunch of the top bookmarking sites, that's a good idea right?

I'm under the impression it would provide great backlinks and also that Google really likes bookmarking sites.

Also, what about just bookmarking some of my best blog posts directly. Is this a good way to get good backlinks?

  • Bookmarks seemed to be a good thing, but I am not so sure anymore - sorry for the dissappointing answer. Recently I am finding more and more backlinking strategies (like bookmarking - even if bookmarks are unique) (with quality readable spinning from unique IPs) are doing next to nothing. Somehow you need to develop a following and they will spreed the word about you.

    It's funny how much time and $ we all spend backlinking. Quality content is sure to spread and become a life of it's own.

    In my opinion, bookmarking has become pretty worthless. I am sure other will a disagree.

    The big boys on the block are FB and G+. If people see your stuff there and share it, you will do fine.

      The whole backlinking process is worthless, You can actually rank without them, or with just few. I do not understand why people are obsessed with links, you can generate lots of traffic with content only strategy.

      Use bookmarking for traffic not backlinks. There is a huge benefit when you build a following that promotes for you continuously.
  • Same is my question, i have a website 4 months old and it was showing on several keywords just through Directory backlinks and comments. Since the past 15 days i was trying to come on the first page of google using the keyword Research and Writing. I was there on the second page when i started noticing that the more backlinks i create more lower my website goes on that particular keyword, and now its GONE...

    so Now i am try to learn social bookmarking for seo to check if that would work?

    • After building some crappy links to one my website, I have experience such a behaver, and all I did was to build 2 differences sets of 10 web 2.0 broken wheel to that website then it pops up to #1 on google now its sits at page #2....

    • Yes ... Social Bookmarking is the best way to get more traffic and standard backlinks.
  • Yes, both are right. When you are getting backlinks to your article posts - You are getting backlinks to your backlinks. That is really good, and healthy in view of SEO.

    Also, note that, Bookmarks are really helpful in getting faster index from Google, as well as they are still good backlinks (Even the backlinks from social bookmark sites are nofollow).

  • For me Social Bookmarking is useful for making sure of indexing rather than ranking. Also I use social bookmarking to mix up backlinks and they look more organic that way. Other than that they barely help you rank for anything.

  • Social Bookmarking is now much effective as it was before. majority people spends time on Social Media so now it can be much useful for getting back links and traffic too.
  • That would be a good idea, just make sure to find only high quality bookmarking sites, no garbage, and you will be good to go.

    Most of social bookmarking sites (if not most, then many of them) are dofollow so that's an asset for you.

  • I find that bookmarking my sites is extremely helpful. Drip feeding bookmarks to each of my sites posts makes them indexed fast, and even drive traffic.

    But always as drip feed, never do 60000 bookmarks at once, from my experience its very harmful. I drip usually 2 links a day per post on high pr bookmark sites.

    I even do this on fiverr and lots of people are happy after my bookmarking.

    DONT FORGET, look at the broad picture, dont focus on one type of backlinks, always diversify !
