Anyone Regained Rankings After Penguin Update?

If it fell only 3 spots, you most likely weren't hit by Penguin. If the drop happen at the date of a penguin update, then it's possible that some of your backlinks lost their value because they were actually hit.

Have you tried acquiring more links? Adding more content?

Some sites got hit however they were quickly regained as they were mis-hit and panda/penguin recovered them for us!

THough having said that a 3 point drop is nothing, some poeple got -300 in some instances - just stay away from those spammy links to your money sites and you will be fine,
increase content build a quality site, improve the user experience.
So long as you are still indexed you shouldnt worry.

If you want to regain the rankings go after manual SEO link building, as well as high PR contextuals, stay well clear of spam blog comments, forum profiles, article directories that are done automatically using the word 'blast' in the service title. as soon as you 'blast' your marketing. you are just going to 'blast' your website from the face of the earth.

Yep, Penguin recovery is possible.

I've helped quite a few clients, both consulting and via services, regain rankings post-Penguin.

You can recover a sites rankings from Penguin, anyone telling you otherwise likely doesn't know any better. Start with your onsite variables, most of the time sites that got hit by Penguin were making blatant errors in regards to site structure, over-optimization, and above-the-fold variables.

Also try and fix up as many backlinks as possible. That's a bit harder, but blend in some quality links. Blend in some unoptimized anchor text links and try and diversify as much as possible.

Recovery from Penguin is absolutely possible.

Is the purpose of removing backlinks because Penguin imposes an algo penalty for low quality backlinks or is it to make the anchor text ratio more balanced?

I've heard that Penguin doesn't penalize for low quality links, but just devalues them instead. However, it's clear that Penguin certainly imposes some sort of algo penalty because the drop in rankings in so big.

Change the content on targeted web page and do re-update of meta. Your ranking will be back in couple of weeks

Couple of weeks? Penguin doesn't refresh every couple of weeks so how is that possible. Also, Penguin is mostly about backlinks, not content so how will changing content and meta regain your rankings.

I think that it might be a problem of backlink overoptimization. Maybe too many backlinks with the same keyword.

I might be wrong (no expert) but I see backlinks now as a sea in which your main keyword should not jut out of this sea (as we use to do before penguin). Instead, spread your main keyword gently along with many others.

If you keep doing it (actually, find someone who does it for you) eventually the sea level will be high enough to cover the peaks of your main keywords and then you will start ranking again.

That is what I think.

I'm not sure you were hit by Penguin either. The best way to recover is to add more links to all pages of your site. People usually link to more than just the homepage so start a campaign.

Grab a whole bunch of keywords say 15 and have them plus general words like (click here, read more, url, this site) and if you build links put those anchors in there. Do this for your posts as well. Build links to inner pages with a few different anchors and general words. This will help your site look more natural and you will dilute any anchor over optimization you might have had.

Panda was mostly related to duplicate, spun or overall poor quality content.

Penguin was mostly related to poor link building techniques. The two major Penguin updates occurred around April 24 and May 25. Most of the other updates were related to Panda.

Check your traffic to see when your google traffic declined. That will give you some strong clues as to which update hit your site.

Yes it did, it declined drastically. From 170 UV/day to 20 UV/day. How should I go about fixing my backlink profile, and has anyone had success regaining his/her rankings by doing this?

Really you will get back to actual ranking by doing updates on Meta title's, Meta Description, Updates new content in your pages, just change your pages content first two or three paragraphs. Make your footer links into no follow links..

Then do basic bookmarking in top 20 websites.. It will show you niche...!!!

Without seeing the actual site, how can you possibly suggest changing the content or anything else on the site? You are just guessing, and poorly at that.

Why does every ranking drop have to be Penguin? If you dropped only 3 spots, it had nothing to do with Penguin and everything to do with your competition outranking you.

The SERPs are fluid. They change all the time. Hell, some SERPs I have seen change several times a day.

How long was your site ranking, especially for the secondary keyword? What backlinking have you done lately? What onsite changes were made? Are you sure you were even ranking and not just seeing personalized results?

Well I'm pretty sure it's a penguin because I was ranking for over a year for both keywords on #1, and they're both easy/mid competitive and the drop happened exactly around the penguin algo release.

And yes I'm sure I was ranking it was no personalized results I'm not that new

I'm telling you, the UVs dropped from 170 to 20, mainly because of the 2 main KWs, each pulling ~ 1500 visitors per month. One fell only 3 spots, the other one disappeared completely.

+ all of my inner pages, which were also ranking nicely (for very easy KWs) are not ranking anymore. I know Google ranks each page separately, but this might be an indicator because I used a similar backlink portfolio on each one of my pages.

It was mainly article marketing, some relevant blog comments. But I remember opting in for a free review on blog networks about 1-2 months before they got hit. Yes, blog networks... that could definitely be it.

Is it curable?

Yes it's curable but how long it takes depends on how many links you built. Dropping 3 places doesn't sound like very much to me. Make sure you check your lost backlinks over April 24th.

Nothing a decent high pr link won't sort out if you ask me.

I have a real case of Peguin 100% recovery for a non-branded website.
The trick is in the backlink profile. You have to make it look natural for Google.
Our strategy was to employ backlinks for inner pages and for the home page after the website started to recover, using these anchor texts:
- main keywords for the URLs
- LSI keywords
- brand keywords
- brand keywords + main keywords
- URL
- natural anchor texts: "read more", "vist website", "source" etc.

It took us more than one month to fully recover from the penalty. We added links only for inner pages and we started adding backlinks for the homepage (slowly) after the first month (when the website started to recover).
You need to be smart and to have some patience!

You need to start providing quality contextual links for Google to follow. Google also needs to see unique IP backlinks growth over time. We are seeing an overall jump after Penguin. I believe this is due to Google cleaning up the SERP.

For your site, it does not seems like a Penguin penalty. I think with some effort and high quality links you can easily get your old rankings back. May be your competitors are doing better than you. Just look into it.

Recovery from Penguin is possible. I have seen many people recovering from Penguin, however it takes a lot of hard work, determination and patience. Also there are people who haven't. In my view it is quite difficult to say. To some extent, Yes it is possible.
