Embed the video or host it? Which is better for SEO

This is the question:

If I upload a video on YouTube and then embed it on my website is better or if I host the video on my website and directly upload it to my website? Which one is better for SEO?

  • Better to upload on your site. it gets visitors first good impression. Because youtube is full of junk videos.

    • It is kind of true. Here are my pros and cons:
      - If I upload them on YouTube I can optimize them there and get separate visitors. That's a good pro. With more videos, my YouTube channel will be a separate source of traffic and income.
      - If I upload them both on YouTube and my website, they will be duplicate, at least one of them. May not be a big deal now, but it is going to be along the way.
      - If I upload them on my website with the correct code, I can make videos visible when someone searches for a term and my website shows up. In other word video's thumbnail will be visible in search results. Huge benefit.
      - If I upload them on my website, my impression is the video will be seen as part of my website's content. Videos are assigned with higher PR initially and also there is SEO benefit of having multimedia vs. text only. On the other hand uploading on YouTube and embedding on my website will be similar to an outbound link from my website to an authority website which still will be good but may not be good as having the original video on the website. Multimedia SEO benefit will exist in this case too.
      So I am still contemplating... Ideas?

  • If you have the option to upload directly in your site, Why cant you upload it there.

    That is better option rather than uploading video in youtube and embed that.
  • I would use Youtube if I were you

    Monetize it with adsense as well and you can rank the video itself as well as your page
