YouTube - Backlinks May Not Work!

I have noticed lately that it has become much harder to get a YouTube video ranked. I am talking about both YouTube search as well as Google search.

In the past, it was quite easy, depending upon the keyword. If it was a medium competition keyword, it was quite easy to upload to YouTube (do your tags, title and desc correctly), buy some fivver backlink gigs, and wala - the top position would be yours.

Lately, I see backlinking doing very little (almost nothing for YouTube videos). EDU links, profile links, comments, wiki's with multiple keyword phrases, retweets, pins (video view exchanges) - etc.

I wonder if you might be experiencing the same thing and if you have found something that works well.... (I know - quality content will be shared - but that is not the answer I am looking for.)

Don't beat me up about fiverr, you know at times it can be a great place to go.

  • Personally, I don't have a conclusive answer for now. As for the last 2 month, my clients only gave me 3 Youtube videos to rank. They're all offline business videos. 2 of them move 2-3 spots after a week (already one page one), the last one not moving at all from its 6th spot. Same backlinking methods, almost the same number of backlinks.

Would you mind to let me try to rank your video? TAT 7 days. Of course FOC. Just don't kick my ass if your video get slapped to oblivion
  • It works for me on both youtube and google search, they even ranked higher than my main sites.

    • How do you do that? Please share some information with us.
  • Try getting more social "proof" from sites like Facebook and Twitter to add to your linking mix.

Ranking Youtube pages with links is still easy.

I've got a video ranked 3rd on Google search for a 60k traffic per month keyword. According to Youtube analytics, that keyword delivers a little over 100 traffic/views per day average from Google SERPs.

    • It not "links," though. Backlinks to a youtube video
are not backlinks. They are links to a spot in
cyberspace, hence the ?= in the url and a
creating of the youtube page it is shown on
is done on the fly. A "backlink" to a youtube
video is really a backlink to youtube.

Backlink to your youtube channel. Now that is
a webpage. Backlink to a page that has your
      youtube video embedded.

Getting people to click on a youtube link would
      be prudent.

Better to slam a video in facebook.

Anything to pump up the views.

  • maybe the fiverr links were crappy?

    Lots of variables available
  • Add quality views - likes - social bookmarks - social sharing > rank.
  • You can also buy GOOD comments or youtube 'thumbs ups' on fiverr too - this helps it not only LOOK popular to users, but youtube as well moves it's rankings up a bit - combine THIS with a few backlinks and you're unstoppable

I just put up 3 new youtube channels over the weekend to experiment with, got some page 1's already
  • I'm finding more easier than ever to rank them.

  • While we are on the topic, what exactly do you do to get your videos ranked? What type of links to you get?

Also, another thing I have been always interested in and I see here in this thread a lot of people with youtube experience, so I can ask it. Besides search traffic the most traffic comes from related videos. How can actually make a video which will be related to some TOP viewed videos. Is it in the keywords, description, title?

And finally, a small tip. Using Market Samurai I have noticed when ranking my videos it shows that the keyword is not in the description. The problem is that it was. So, I set the keyword in the first 2 lines of the description(which are generally always visable) and Market Samurai showed that now keyword in the description. When I checked immediately the ranking of the video in Youtube, it actually jumped 2 places up after I have set the keyword in the first 2 lines.

  • For me It always works on both youtube and google search, they even ranked higher than my main sites.
  • I haven't had much luck ranking videos in my niche, because it obviously has a lot of competition, but I would suggest if you have the money, pay people to tweet and share it on Facebook, get likes, views, channel subscribers maybe, and publish videos regularly. I can help you with all of that if you want.
  • Backlink on YouTube works very well. Trust me I've been ranking highly competitive keywords and have been killing it this month!

However, the links you have listed such as Edu profiles and Wiki backlinks are not necessarily the best when it comes to ranking your video.

One of the link types I've found to work very well are social bookmarks in mass quantity.

Blast about 500-2000 bookmarks to you video and then you'll see it move.
