    Last year for the panda update one of my sites got hit - it took 3 months to recover. My theory is that if your site is less than 6 months old it takes longer to recover even if there is nothing wrong with your site! Seems to take quite a long time for any major algorithm to settle down.

    They have only done 1 Penguin refresh so far since the initial release on April 24th. Panda they do about every 6 weeks. Penguin will most likely be similar. You are probably not going to see a site recover between refreshes, and if it does, it wasn't Penguin that caused the rankings drop.

    I think this is a question that only someone who has succeeded to recover from a Penguin update (NOT Panda) could answer. I have a real case of Pneguin 100% recovery for a non-branded website.
    The trick is in the backlink profile. You have to make it look natural for Google.
    Our strategy was to employ backlinks for inner pages and for the home page after the website started to recover, using these anchor texts:
    - main keywords for the URLs
    - semantic keywords (LSI)
    - brand keywords
    - brand keywords + main keywords
    - URL
    - natural anchor texts: "read full article", "vist website", "source" etc.

    It took us more than one month to fully recover from the penalty. We added links only for inner pages and we started adding backlinks for the homepage (slowly) after the first month (when the website started to recover).
    You need to be smart and to have some patience!
    If you are smart enough, you can do it in about one month.

      Thanks for sharing step by step. My Thailand Car Pickup & SUV Dealer Toyota Vigo Hilux Exporter was hit by both Panda and Penguin and it is slowly recovering to 30% of its original traffic as the old links get diluted with new links. I will try some of your suggestions and see if its fortunes improve even more. Thanks again.

    As usual normal tips we should be follow if site penalize by penguin update...
    1. Don't try to make more anchor text with same keywords, try some branding keywords for your business too
    2. Use fresh and unique content
    3. Try to get backlinks from authority websites
    4. Remove all unrelated links on your website.
    5. Only obtain backlinks by guest posting on relevant sites or by providing great content.
    6. Try and get links to your site with different anchor texts.
    7. Try and get links to your site with different anchor texts.
    8. Try and include only contextual links.

    It varies but i can't really say why. Its probably going to take time maybe weeks or months. All you need to do is focus on your site and optimize it properly.

    Depends on the site's size, popularity number of "bad links" pointing in and out and the number of "good" new links etc.

    I guess you should consider months rather than weeks... the next Penguin update might not catch your changes...

    Make sure you remove bad links with Webmaster Tools (Google) and set the links that you have to set to "nofollow", you should also update your sitemap, acquire some new ethical links...

    The period of the penalty varies... in bad cases I noticed that it can take a year or more (but then again you must know whether it was Panda or Penguin that hit you).

    There are automatic (software) and there are manual penalties. For the latter you can file a reconsideration request to Google and perhaps they'll have a heart big enough to remove the penalty.

    there is no timeframe you can give, it all depends on how quickly you can make the changes needed for Panda and Penguin and if the site has been penalized. If it has been Penalized dont expect to rank a decent site for 3 months

    I've never recovered from Panda. If you want to do it, I suggest you scrap your content and start again. I'm about to try this with one site. I believe I was penalised because my site was 10 years old and there's so much duplicate/scraped content out there now that Google have no idea where the original source is.
