Question: When I comment on someones blog where they ask for my name/email/website/comment, after the comment has been Published it usually says my name and if I click it it take me to my URL.

1. does this count as a backlink?
2. is the anchor text for that backlink "my name"?
3. should i replace my name with something im trying to rank for?

Yes it counts as a backlink.

Definitely your name will your anchor text if that is clickable and lands to your website.

Changing your anchor text is not really necessary if your comment has been posted. Actually, it is good for link diversion.

thanks. one last things. If i post a comment on a bunch of different posts on a the same blog (url) then i get credit for all of the backlinks but i would get near about the same credit for doing 1 as i would get for doing 100

so there is really no reason to spam all the comments for every posting. just 1 every once and a while.

Quality is more important than quantity. If you post tons of comments in a same site, then the admin of that site may not publish your comments. All may be treated as spam. So I think you should concentrate on the quality of comment. Which will give you more benefit than a tons of comment in a single site.

      Right.

Instead of just commenting on a bunch of their posts try and comment on a smaller # of higher PR posts. Although I like to mix in some (not too many) comments on PR N/A & 0 posts as well.

Its count as backlink. Here your name is anchor text but you can use any of your keywords. And don't use same anchor text. Make a variation in anchor text to avoid penalty.

I'm not sure if Blog Commenting counts as a backlink but it's definitely a free traffic source. This is from my own experience.

Yes it is a backlink to your site. If you change your name to a keyword though the person who owns that blog may not accept your comment - I wouldn't because it looks spammy.
Don't forget that Google wants anchor text variety and wants it to look natural so having your own name is surely the most natural way? You can use other methods to get your keyword anchor text - eg your own Web 2.0 blog network.

Yup, it is being counted as an back link. You can also use keyword instead of your name if at all the blog allows.
