Google Plus and Ranking Effect

I've bought 500 Google pluses and applied it to a site as an experiment. The site's ranking dropped to page 10 from page 2. It got stuck there for 6 months. It is gradually recovering now. What's interesting is Google has removed all the Google pluses. Any similar experience?

  • This actually happened to me as well.

I was testing different social signals and how they effected rankings.

I had a pretty tough keyword around 40K searches a month

I was at position 5 for months and was comfortable with that. I was getting around 500 visitors today and the site was making anywhere from $50-$150 a day

This was actually just a test site to me so I figured I'd try social Signals

First I did facebook likes on the actual page (500) nothing happened

I then ordered 300 retweets on my website this actually bumped me up to #2 (I really recommend trying retweets they're EXCELLENT)

Then a few weeks later I went against my better judgement and got Google +1s boy was this a mistake

My website dropped into the Abyss and I haven't seen it since... This was about 1 month ago and it's still nowhere to be seen

didn't tried that one, I don't think getting number of Google pluses won't help in ranking.

    • I know it helps if you do it using real Google plus accounts. It seems Google knows which accounts are creating Google pluses. I would stay away from paid Google pluses. Have your friends, clients, and family members click on Google plus button.

    • The theory is that social signals should be a factor in how well your website ranks
  • I think what they did there was dumping all those Tweets and Google Pluses in one day. The triggers Google's spam detection and it doesn't look natural. Probably all those accounts got banned, that is why they are all gone. I would suggest to set it to a low key. That way it looks natural.

    • I was the only one who mentioned tweets and stated it was pretty well spread out
