    • If we go by what Matt Cutts actually said, it is:

      - cloaking (showing different content to users than to the search engines)
      - keyword stuffing (too many keywords on a page, in the title, in the heading, etc.)
      - duplicate content that's created on purpose
      - participation in link schemes (link wheels, links from blog networks, paid links, lots of junk links).

      Also, as practice shows, identical or "keyword" anchor tests are a big no-no. Make your anchor texts as diverse as possible.

      Sitewide links may also arouse suspicion. You may have heard what had happened the WordPress themes site that had lots of footer links from blogs using that theme pointing to it. It got slapped by Penguin, but then did some clean-up and eventually recovered.
  • Exact-match keyword link building campaign, like targeting 'travel agents' over and over, without a slight variation. Google's updates are aimed at unnatural and manipulative practices. If you have been doing this, now is the time for you to think of other ways to sustain your brand.
