I am was a complete noob when starting my site back in February, I made my site completely blind to SEO , adsense, niche's, etc. now that I have gained some experience and learned a lot about SEO I d want to start creating other sites. Now my first site has a very broad niche, lets say for example like golf, very broad right? Well would it be better to create category pages or whole sites to target the micro niche's? e.g. golf swing, gold clubs, golf gloves ,etc. I use wordpress and a plug in called all-in-one seo which is great. I have the number one rank in google for a few of my articles so it seems very possible to optimize a "page" as a micro niche. Has anybody tried or accomplished this? What are your thoughts on pages vs sites?

i don't recommend you create a blog on a topic as large as golf. You won't have a chance competing against the big guys. Pick a much smaller niche, or even a micro niche, provide outstanding value, network with other bloggers in complementary niches, become the expert in your field...

Larger sites are easier to rank new/relevant keywords, also a lot cheaper on domain cost.

    Larger sites always

    Authority is good

also I find it's easier ranking pages than domains.

Granted sometimes I have trouble ranking multiple pages at once sometimes it's just a better long term business model

A broad topic is fine as long as your specific articles contain keywords you can rank for. I have an iphone related site in which one article gets 13k unique visits a month by itself.

Another example... there's a couple of bugs that were introduced by the latest version of Wordpress. I posted the fix on a site and I'm getting a ton of hits for related searches.

Seems I am going the right route. Like I said my niche is very broad and in no way do I think I will be able to rank for the main keyword which has the first page of google filled with wiki and webster pages. But instead of giveing up on the site as a whole, I want use pages to focus on more specific niche's.
