I was wondering if anyone used .us domains and if so, what has been your experience with them regarding SEO? Do they fare as well as the other more popular ones, .com, .net, .org, etc.?

One of my clients is looking to get a .us domain to fit his business name. I personally have no experience working with them.

What I learned from the Google webmaster center is that if you have country based domains is that it is good for seo only when you are targeting that geographical region.

    Other than what tamtu mentioned,
there is no particular downside from an
    SEO standpoint for any extension.

The only issue comes from the user's familiarity
with the extension. For instance, one of my
email addresses is a .net. This is fairly common
these days. But every once in a while when I
give that address out, and I speak with CLEAR
articulation, they will send an email to the .com
version and I won't receive it.

I personally believe that most people have trained
themselves to stop listening after you say DOT.
