Two websites, same content (almost)

Let's say that you have a website that's doing okay, and you want to leverage it more. You've got a few articles on (for example) tendonitis exercises. Let's say the URL is "tendonitisexercises.com". Would it be okay to make another website with the URL "anti-tendonitisexercises.com" and post the same content, just changed enough that the prefix "anti-" was plugged in a few times and the KY optimization/metatags/etc. were similarly tweaked? What would be the result?

I remember Mike Filsame said somewhere that if you have a site that's doing well, one thing would be to make another site just like it, and you'll double your revenue. But I'm not sure just how "just like it" you can get and not incur Google penalties.

  • I don't think it works anymore, with the new change of the google algorithm you will be for sure penalized because it will consider that you are submitting duplicate content which is completely out of there Quality Guidelines.

    • You sure about that? Ever heard of Huffington Post? That site is all duplicate content! And yet, it almost always outrank the original source. Google doesn't treat the big sites like they do us. What penalizes us, doesn't penalize the big sites.

The trick is not to have 100% duplicate content. Just, like, around 80% and add your "original" one-sentence opinion like all the other curation sites.
  • 'Preciate the response, Imfusa. That's sorta the way I'm leaning as well, but...

Anyone else have any actual experience with this?
  • that would just fall under, dup and/or spun content which would not be good for your websites.
  • Of course ,new google algorithm, surely your website will penalized ,so just change with new contents and update sitemap.xml once again.
  • Your current website will be ok - however, - you will go no where with the second site. Dup content doesn't fly w/ G.
  • Thanks for the replies, everyone. Will just re-work the articles a bit; won't take that much time.
