Linking Strategy help

Hey Warriors,

I need some help concerning a linking strategy I'd like to implement for a client. Client owns a kayaking tour company and his competition is killing him because of the backlinks they're getting, plus his website is brand new (we're talking 5 weeks).

What I'd like to do is put together a backlinking strategy as follows: basically, find restaurant's, bars and hotels around the areas the he serves and implement a "Things to do in _____" page on his site. Each sub-page of that page would be geo-targeted and have categories: restaurants, bars, hotels and corresponding to links to each place that will participate in our "link partner program." So, we find a hotel near one of his kayaking routes and get a link from them, and vice-a-versa.

Would this strategy work post-penguin? I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks.

  • This is a good way to complicate your life. Also 5 weeks may be too young to start doing serious SEO. Also too much out bound links from your site is a bad thing.

    • Well, the entire site has been indexed already and we're on page 2 for his main keyword just by pushing out fresh a relevant content via blog posts on his site. I'd like to get him some backlinks though, aside from local directories. Why would this complicate my life and what would you suggest ?
  • It possible it would work, if those restaurants linked back and sent visitors or something, but it would overall be a waste of your time.

    If he is all about local, try some directory submissions and grab all of his local pages, like Google Places, etc, and make sure they are all correct.

  • Reciprocal linking are always dangerous. If you have another good website running, go for a triangular link exchange.
