  • I asked the same question a few weeks earlier because I made a site especially for the EURO 2012. The advices I got there were to make as many backlinks as possible in order to get fast rankings.

So I bought some Fiver gigs that were offering tens of thousands of backlinks and I did got some traffic from Google and Bing. Not so much though, because I started the site a little too late. But since you still have 2 weeks until the event, it should work for you better.

I also didn't got any Google slaps in this time but I deleted the site right after the event...just to be sure
  • Thanks for your answer
How many days before the event did you start backlinking? And how far did your go in the rankings for your main keyword? Your domain was an exact match?

    Thanks again, that's very helpful

    • Actually I started backlinking in the second day of the event...so I was very late. My domain was an exact match...

Only after 2 weeks I started ranking on certain keywords in the top 5 on Google but since the event had 3 weeks it was a little too late...anyway it was a good experience and I know how to proceed in the future.

    • As low as you can have, but if you wanna to have max i will advice to do not have more than 50,
  • Well to be honnest I beleive that Fiverr gigs wont help much even if there are 10K backlinks from irrelevent keywords. But there are great SEO offers on that forum (less backlinks maybe, but more quality, so better results).
  • Personally, I wouldn't go down the SEO route for a one time event. SEO usually takes time. I'd be looking at PPC

    • Actually, "questionable" SEO techniques tend to work GREAT for one-time events. Especially if you're going after a phrase without much competition. (which is usually the case.)
  • That could be an option as well, but I saw affiliate sites built for one time events ranking #1 for buying keywords 24h before the even (then page#2 a few days after). I do beleive the affiliate made a few $100 or $1000 on that day alone.
For events, even if PPC is always an option, a high ranking on google 24h before the even can be the jackpot...

If anyone have any other ideas, please share
  • It is better to take action early as possible. Launch your site and start working on link building.

I would suggest to get 50+ links per day and make sure all those links are indexed by Google with help of bookmarking or pinging. Maintain 50+ links per day, - You should maintain that consistent to make yourself as superhero in Google's eyes.

Apart from that, to get more referral traffic, Go to popular web 2.0 sites like Tumblr, Blogger and wordpress - Create your niche related blogs with EXACT keyword which you wish to rank on blog's URL. Post well written articles about your niche, and get backlink to your site, and in the articles highly recommend your site as well. And do bit link building for your Tumblr, blogger, wordpress blogs as well, Those too will get rank on Google, as far as those are high authority sites, you can rank them easily and quickly with good backlinks. This will help you to get more referral traffic.
  • That's verry interesting, I will make my own tests next time. Would you think starting 2 weeks before the event is enough or would it be better to start the heavy SEO a bit before?

Hello, I wanted to ask you guys what would you do SEO wise to rank fast for a onetime event. Let say you have an exact match domain and 2 weeks to be first on google... Even if you would get google slapped a day after the event.
