Rank Checker unreliable?

Hi,

I've been using Rank Checker for Firefox for a long time, however, recently a supplier of mine checked a page for me. When I checked it with RankChecker it said something like position #45 and his, using SEOmoz said #6.
Have you experienced something similar?

I would like a great, free tool that I can check my rankings with, but spending $100/month for seomoz, may be bit much.

Any thoughts?

    ya this can happen with self hosted ranking trackers because of personalization and other similar issues.

    i recommend using third party rank checkers that manage the process themselves. its cheaper, easier, and they are the ones that have to figure out the problems with personalization

    Try out SERPFox.com

    It's a pretty solid service, and one of the best priced around. My complaint is that they update their rankings FAR too much. Something like 4 or 5 times a day. Which is really overkill.

    Otherwise, solid service and again cheapest of any around.

      Yeah, It could be happen with online tools. Because they don't give an accurate information. so i would suggest you that go with google search.

      Many tools are not reliable just change the proxy of a particular country and then check the ranking. Then you will get the exact ranking.

    As mentioned you normally need to pay to get the most reliable results. The problem is that once you find a bad number how can you trust any of the other numbers?

    SEO MOZ is pretty good though just not allways the quickest to run.

    You can just get a rough idea through tools, maximum of them doesn't show exact ranking. It's better to go manually if you want exact ranking

    Use SEO Powersuite Rank Tracker, this is the best rank tracker ever, the free version can track ranking nicely, but you can't publish the pdf report.

    Yes agree, rank checker not define the right rank. When I tried to used it, the rank was 10 but when you surf it manually it turns 5.

    Use proxy on your browser,clear the cache & cookie,sign out from your google account and then check it manually.

    Treat those rank checkers as unique users. Each rank checker on the Internet would be a certain person on the Internet using Google or whatever search engine out there to check your rank. There are many factors that would make you rank on the search results, and one of them would be location, even if you're searching using the no-country- redirect searcher for Google. It could be that the reference point of those rank checkers are different from each other.
