I understand that you usually don't see immediate results from building backlinks but, is there any way to actually see if my page rank went up or if google has indexed my backlinks?

Hemm some method can boost you rank in 5-7 days, for normal method you can see the result in 2 weeks.. and you can check your backlink at backlinkwatch.com

There are tools to check rankings, try seeking at google for "rank checkers" or "pagerank check". You can also see a different position of your webpage on google search result page (SERP). If you are going to beging your linkbuilding campaing, remember to state where your page appeared on the SERP for a determined keyword, and after a few days/weeks, check again if I has made any positive effect.

I use SEO Elite. It's not free, but it is a great tool. And it does more than just check your rankings.

Simply use tools like seoserp.com to know your ranking, this tool can only show from 1 to 1000 which i a big plus.

For your PR use Page Rank checker tool.
