Domain Mapping Vs 301 Redirect

Hi
My hosting company offers a domain mapping feature so that if I change a domain name from yyz.com to xyz.com then both domains work.

Does anyone know whether this is good or bad, or whether I'd be better of doing a 301 redirect?

I have asked my hosting company what impact this might have with Google and they've basically said that only Google will know the answer...to which I concur

Maybe someone here has experience with this.

    You should probably 301 redirect your domain yyz.zom to xyz.com. This will help you pass the Link juice, will sustain the ranking of the keywords for the domain xyz.com and avoid duplicacy issue.
