Linkbuilding for clients

Create something viral that people will share. Execute data visualization like a nice infographic of what ferret eats, their lifespan, what kind of shelter should be built for them if you'll breed, etc. Find people interested in the subject and present them those infos. Natural links will come your way.

And from finding those people of the same interests, you can also start building a group, possibly in facebook. It will give you an audience that will provide positive signals for your website to be trusted by search engines.

It will be a nice start.

You might analyze sites that are already ranking high with an automated tools such as SEO SpyGlass and see where they're getting their links from.

You could write an article about ferret pampering and post it onto hubpages, squidoo, 2.0's etc. Something as niche as ferret pampering wouldn't really need much linkbuilding, just place good content on your site and set up the onsite seo (I am aware that ferret pampering in just an example lol)

the problem is my knowledge of ferret pampering is pretty much zero, do I work hand in hand wth the client to develop a lot ferret centric info and research ferrets myself if there are ferret books & websites?

There are lots of article writers on here and of course on fiverr. If you use fiverr be careful and read the reviews.

You can write guest posts about the topic you are interested in. Another good way to get backlinks is to write content for web 2.0 sites and article directories. If your content goes viral, you will get a steady number of quality links. Forum posting and blog commenting will help you as well.

the problem is, I don't actually know very much/anything about Ferret Pampering, is learning your clients business inside out(ie enough to write authoritatively about on a blog it part of the deal when you agree to assist someone with SEO?

Agree with this. This kind of obscure topics fit well for article marketing. Create article and submit them. And also create web 2.0 properties.

You can go ahead and share that link in places where you think the content within the link would add value to whatever is posted in those places. People are looking for valuable information, and if you're going to share something that they're looking for, they might spread it around just like you're doing, and even consider it as a reputable source of information.

With respect you should forget about writing articles and wasting your precious time. I was recently introduced to a couple of SEO guys in Chicago they have an awesome package for building great SEO I have found that my clients have definitely benefited from this service up until now it has proven to be Penguin proof and best of all it is cheap check my signature to see the video

If it is a real company why don't you promote a press release? This way the niche doesn't matter at all and it is totally normal to do a press release for a local business. If it gets published on high authority sites you can then build tier 2 backlinks from lower quality sources like web 2.0 stuff and so on to the published press release posts.

Also you can just post guest posts on general pet sites, it does not have to be exactly about your keyword. The more obscure the niche is the more interested the blog owners might be to show their readers something new.

Outsource the work to someone else, especially if you are new to this. You could do more damage than good.

Take a look around, read reviews/threads/etc. You can find good services and let them manage it for you while you work on making your clients happy, and getting new business.
