Is Google adsense dead?

I have been making content sites with the purpose of ultimately getting enough traffic to monetize them with adsense. The thing is I feel it is not worth it. No matter what I do I can only make but a few dollars hear and now. I feel like I can push my own low priced products and do better than this? What are other peoples thoughts about adsense?

I get about $200 month from Adsense, but that is against a ton of traffic.

The actual CTR on my site is about 6 clicks per 1000 visitors.

Since I am not monetizing that site in any other way at this time, I am not going to cry about the low returns I am getting from Adsense just yet.

  • I made decent money from Adsense, decent meaning enough to pay some bills and give me extra money, but it never helped replace my day job.

Creating niche products to offer to your customers will inevitably multiply your profits; assuming your marketing funnel can convert viewers into buyers. But if IT CAN, your earning potential becomes uncapped and you only have to replicate the system.

Adsense works fine. Getting lots of traffic to a website is the hard part.

In my experience with Adsense, as well as talking with many other website owners who use it, typically 30 unique visitors = $1 of Adsense earnings, on average.

This means that 1 unique visitor per day = $1 per month in earnings.

So if you want to plan to make $1000/month in Adsense earnings, you have to ask yourself "how can I build a website that gets 1000 visitors per day?"

Also, keep in mind that just because you use Adsense, does not mean you cannot also use other monetization methods. A few years ago I had an authority site with only Adsense on it. Then, I added a link in the right side column with an advertisement on it that led to a sales page of an ebook. Pretty much instantly, my total earnings of the website doubled from the addition of ebook sales revenues.

So I would say, don't rely solely on Adsense. Embed Adsense ads in the content but also embed link ads or sidebar ads for relevant products.

    • $1 for every 30 visitors is pretty good, so you have a .033 CTR and an average CPC of $1, that's amazing!

If I had the same average for sites that received over 100k unique visitors a month, I would have made over 3k a month from a single website.

Well Adsense never worked for me, promoting other products did though.

Good luck none the less, and diversify your portfolio as much as possible profit wise, that way if one of your income streams fades away you won't be completely broke.

One of my blog gets about 2500 visitors per day and I make between $5 to $10 per day. It too low, for me Google is dead.

I am looking for other options and want to get rid of Google Adsense.

Adsense is not dead. Esp not if you can run it at large scale.

Personally I prefer other methods of monetization compared to adsense, I've always made more money on sites that I've stayed away from adsense

'Dead' is a word we hear to often in this industry I believe.

    Article marketing is dead...
    Email marketing is dead...
    Social-media is dead...
    Forum posting is dead...

    Blah, blah.

Nothing is ever really dead, there are always people out there making money with the latest 'dead' craze.

If you were doing what they were doing, you would be making money - as simple as that.

Now that's not to say it doesn't get harder to make money with certain platforms, believe me - it does. But, it doesn't by any means make it dead.

You just need to put your optimize for conversions and such with things like adsense.

But, if I were you - I would be pushing my own products and not relying on Google for my pay cheque.

It's been that way since back in '11 when I got a nice big ban from adsense - best thing that could have happened for me at the time. Forced me to learn other ways to monetize which ulitamely lead em to where I am today.

Adsense is by no means dead, i'd argue it's more popular than ever, and depending on ads you can get $10+ for a single click, and there are plenty people making thousands off it monthly. The tricky part is not getting banned by google for invalid clicks.

In my opinion Google Adsense pays out too little money. You're much better off monetizing the traffic you get by selling your own products. This will YOU will determine how much you get paid.

I bookmarked a blog post on Digg and it was a hit. I got 7,000 visitors in one day. I had about 100 clicks on these adsense ads and only made a few dollars. I believe if I had anything else I would have made a few hundred off of this. If 7,000 visitors is not enough to make decent money with adsense, then what is?

I'm surprised you got 100 clicks - social media traffic (digg, reddit et al) is notoriously non-clicky traffic.

Mine are the same as yours.

It's never made any sense to me to be paid pennies when people leave my websites instead of staying there.

I've never used AdSense on any of my sites and don't intend to use it (or its equivalents).

I know there are some people steadily making four-figure monthly incomes from AdSense but I strongly suspect that (a) there are very, very few of them, (b) they have enormous traffic, (c) most of them have approached it on a trial-and-error basis by starting huge numbers of sites and then building up only the ones that "seem to work", and (d) it's a largely SEO-driven business model which is probably one of the more precarious ones to adopt.

Adsense isnt bad at all. Its just the method..
Think about it, ads are a way of exposure through interruption. Would you like it if someone stopped you on the way to work and bugged you five times with offers of window cleaning, a new amazing coffee maker, or cheap suites?

Adsense certainly is not dead, but there are usually better ways to monetize your traffic depending on the niche. Do some exploring and see what you can find! Look into CPA offers and Clickbank for starters!

when adsense was just started, I nearly banked 5grand from them, but now that it's more popular and more exposed , it's also more saturated

It clearly depends on your niche. If you were in the mesothelioma niche and got 100 clicks you would have made at least 1k.

I use adsense because it is quick and easy. If I see big earnings from one site, I know I could probably make more by using another form of monetization.

my adsense income is not so good, i think if anyone want to income lots from adsense he must spend huge time on developing his website. He need to write lots of unique articles, update his site daily and he need correct SEO for his sites to keep unique visitors regularly.I think its now quite tough. Nowadays a website for adsense income needs a proper team.

Adsense has always been dead. It's dead to those who think

      1) They should quit their day jobs because they can make
      a living at it.

      2) They can buy an EMD, wordpress, and think traffic will come and click.

Google tells you upfront to not make adsense the majority
way you make money with a website.

Adsense is alive and well for those who know it adds to the
      bottom line very easily.

Even if it made $2.75 a day. That's $1,000 a year. Who would
not want to add $1,000 to their bottom line? The smart ones
monetize other ways and keep their jobs.

I monetize other ways and I have a job. My wife has a job
too. We don't rely on adsense, but man it sure pays some
      bills!

      Change your mentality.

The CTR on Adsense is poor. Google has been running the same general layout of ads for years with only minor tweaks. I think most people have become ad blind when it comes to Adsense and that is why they do not click.

But Paul, the CTR has considerably dropped over the past few years. That was the point I was trying to make. I also monetize in other ways, but the CTR of Adsense is getting so low that I'm thinking it is time to pull those ads off the site and replace them with something that has greater earning potential. I'm also an Adwords user and the CTR on those has dropped too. Mostly because of increased CPC driving me out of the view on Google search and Penguin damage to those sites that ran my ads outside of search.
