I'm wondering how people get a picture next to their websites in the SERPS. Could someone walk me through the process?

How has it helped you?

  • Do you mean the profile picture next to your name? That's called "google authorship", and it's definitely helped me with my click-through rate. If you have a website with wordpress, then download the plugin "google authorship for multiple blogs". You also need a google+ account for it to link to. The plugin will carry you through the rest.

      Step by step: https://plus.google.com/authorship

      1. You can link content you publish on a specific domain (such as Wired . com) to your Google+ profile.
      2. Sign up for Google+ and create a Google+ profile.
      3. Make sure you have a profile photo with a recognizable headshot.
      4. Make sure a byline containing your name appears on each page of your content (for example, "By Steven Levy").
      5. Make sure your byline name matches the name on your Google+ profile.
      6. Verify you have an email address (such as stevenlevy @ wired.com) on the same domain as your content. (Don't have an email address on the same domain? Use this method to link your content to your Google+ profile)
      7. Return to this page and enter your email address.

I think what you are talking about is a Rich Snippet. It appears next to a lot of noun-y things: people, places, things, restaurants, etc. If you google, for example, "guacamole recipe" a lot of the top results will have pictures and star ratings -- all thanks to rich snippets. Just google that and there will be instructions on how to use it.

    Hi,

I guess you are talking about Google local listing, that is were pictures will be listed with the listing. If this what you want, create a profile in Google local or places and add all the necessary details. Submit it and then Google sends you a code either via SMS or via post. Enter the code and confirm your subscription. Once this is done, in some days, your listing will start getting listed for your targeted keywords in Google search with the image you have uploaded.

Google refers you to schema.org. Here's their web site - it's got the exact code you'll need to get your information indexed and picked up by the SEs:

    Getting Started - schema.org

After you get your code installed - Google has a testing tool you can use to see how it will look on their search results page:

Hi It's really not difficult to show your own image beside your site's Google result pages. But before you can make it possible, you have to do some work.

Basically you need to add your blog or website to your Google profile. Obviously you need to create a complete Google profile at first. Then you need to create an About me page on your own site. After that you have link all your site's pages to About me page and link this About Me page to your Google profile. That's it all about.

Read How to Show Your Picture in Google Search Results? for a complete step by step guide.

Remember, it will take some time for Google bots to crawl your site and understand the connection to your profile. If you have done everything correctly, check it here : Google Structured Data Testing Tool

If it shows your picture, then you have done everything correctly. But Google doesn't guarantee that it will show your picture beside the search results always. It depends on Google only. Hope it helps.
