I have been testing some of my Adsense sites by changing the ad size, block type and colors. Trying to see if there is any extra money to be made with differnet ad typs.

Just wanted to ask for any opinons out there what you have done that worked well for you with the Adsense ads. I know a lot of marketers use the large block ads but I am sure there are better ideas out there.

This is something you're going to have to test to see what's working best for your site.

You can split-test or rotate different ad types using php to find this out.

I've found that on some of my pages, plain ol' text ads with link font and color that matches the page works well. Yet, on other pages of the same site - I can't beat image ads.

TIP: When selecting Ad Sizes, the sizes that appear near the top under "Recommended" are the highest converting.

Unless you're getting massive traffic, a simple colour change or ad type change won't make a noticeable difference in your earnings.

Doesn't hurt to test though. I've found that 300x250, 336x280, and 728x90 work the best.

For general purposes, don't go crazy. I've
seen sites that make my eyes hurt.

      Simple things are best.

There's a reason why google has a "default"
color palette. Use it. There's a reason why
they tell you to use the biggest ads. Use them.
There's a reason why they let you have 3 ad
      blocks. Use them.

I hardly test colors. No reason. Default is the best
there ever was across 99.9999% of the sites.

I do make one small change. I make the link color
0000CC. The FF is just too bright.

White background, default green url, darker blue title.
Never saw a single site that would not benefit from that
      combo.

Perhaps more people would raise their CTR by using this.

I did test placement and have my pet one.

I do test image/text and actually found, in the long
run, image/text is the way to go.

After that, you need to tweak your content and visitors.

Big, in your face ads, default colors and font, image/text,
      3 ad blocks. That's a winning combination.
