Does using the same webhost for many domains hurt your SEO?

Hello everyone,
We want to build a brand new web site and start our SEO efforts for that new site completely from scratch.
Question: Do you think using the same web host (We have a plan where we can host unlimited domains) will hurt us? (Meaning the old sites on the same hosting plan might hurt us in any way)?
Thanks for your input!

People say the answer is no. However, due to potential "bad neighbors" that answer yes. Well, for me anyway. OK so can you assume... Yeah, that you will never get any "bad neighbors" even one. I do not think so. Best to exercise some care. Google is getting more serious now. They even brought back their oop - over optimization penalty that they did promise they would never use.

I think the answer ought to be no, but from personal experience many of my sites in the same hosting went down like a sack of spuds post Penguin. Coincidence? Maybe!

Well.. generally, there's nothing wrong on using the same hosts on your new sites. I haven't experienced nor seen any studies showing that using the same hosts on new sites will hurt it.

I do not think so that would be really a dumb reason to penalize you for having more than 1 domain on a webhosting account.

( But with Google you never know these days ) but I would definitely take my chances, because I personally believe they would never stoop that low.

What would people do buy different webhosts for each domain that they owned? It would get pretty costly.

Build good high pr backlinks,, and share useful unique content, and you will always do pretty well with your seo.

I called hostgator 3 months ago about this and they said HOW??? They got Unlimited sites running on the same public IP.. So will google penalize that site because he is on the same Public IP as that one of a spammer? The answer is no!

You really have nothing to worry about. The only possible thing that could hurt you would be if you interlink between your websites all on the same IP address too much (e.g. site A has many links to site b, vice versa). That could raise some flags with the G.

In theory the answer should be no but in practice it is not so simple. If someone has a site which falls foul of Google, it could trigger a manual review of the other sites hosted on that ip. The reason would be to check whether the same owner has similar sites that should be banned.

If you have a high quality site, then there should be nothing to worry about. If not, you may well find yourself harmed in the cross fire.
