Hello,

I just finished my first 301 redirect from "old" domain to "new" domain. I have question about backlinks. I'm starting to build links for my "new" domain - is it OK to use same backlinks that I used for "old" domain or it's worthless?

That's a very good question and I'm going to say it shouldn't be a problem...

Are you doing a 301 because of penalty?

No, I didn't have any penalty. I just needed to change the domain URL... Any other thoughts?

No, I don't have code for that. I simply used CPANEL and everything is working quite well now.. BUT anyone? Is it ok to use same backlinks for "new" domain that I used for "old" domain?

Uhm, not sure what you meant, but I'm asking if I got backlink from balbla.com to my oldsite.com, then is it ok to put new backlink to balbla.com for my newsite.com ??

Its ok to get the same backlinks but if you're doing it solely for SEO purposes its kind of useless since you are already getting credited with the link through the 301. If you are doing it in order to guide traffic then sure, but otherwise its just a waste of time.

301 redirection tells the search engines that you are now available on new domain. Google representative, Matt Cutts, has confirmed that 301 redirection passes on every credit of the old domain to new domain.

A Web server function where an old URL can be redirected to a new one. 301 Redirect is a "permanent" redirect status indicating that the resource has moved permanently.

Id set the new domains within Google's webmaster tools also. That is of course, if you use it.
