How Important is EMD for an authority site?

In fact, I have not selected any keywords yet as I will be targeting forums for my traffic, so how important is the domain name for me?

I'd say an EMD is less important for an authority site. Just build good content and have a brandable domain and you'll be set!

Frank is right. Very unimportant. A memorable .com will be of a much greater help than an EMD. And as more time passes, Google is bound to make EMD even LESS important.

Just think about all the main authority sites that come to mind, Google, Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia, Amazon etc.

None of those are EMDs.

Has little to no importance at all.

Authority sites have many pages of content about a range of related topics (keywords).

An EMD is only "exact" for a single keyword phrase. So, if your site has 100 pages of content about different topics, only 1 will be an "exact match"...And 1 out of 100 is 1%.

For an authority site, you'd be better off getting a shorter, memorable domain name, or combine a broad keyword with something brandable, like DietDude.com.
