Which is more effective social bookmarking or forum posting?

Forum posting is more effective than social bookmarking because forum can help to get good amount of quality backlinks than social. If you use more forums than social you can increase your search engine rankings as well.

I don´t know about bookmarking. But I did a test yesterday on the WF forum. Unfortunately there was something wrong with the forum yesterday, so the results could have been better on normal days.

I postet a reply in this thread, linking to a video of somebody, relevant to the thread. Before replying the video had 50 views. Now it has 71 and the number is still growing. If it would have been my own video and if I would have posted it on numerous forum I could have got a few hundred views and dozens of opt-ins. So, in my opinion, forum marketing can work.

Both are effective. But in different way. Social bookmarking is effective for indexing website fast and forum posting is to get targeted traffic.

forum posting is definitely more effective than social bookmarking,as it provide quality backlinks and help in improving the traffic

I am giving equal importance to social bookmarking as well as to the forum posting.

Social bookmarking and forum posting both are effective... social bookmarking will be used to increase your website's populartiy and form posting will give a strong back link....

In my view, quality forum posting is effective than bookmarking. I do have a little experience with that.

As per SEO point of view, do not follow any one method to get valid back links.Follow the both method. Both are more effective to get valid back links.

I think both are good methods to get backlinks. If you post on related niche forums and get backlinks from forum posts then they are quality backlinks however on other hand if you singup to 1000s of forums and put only 1 backlink in signature and donot even post anything to forum that is low quality backlinks.

Both have its own advantages. Also, it's always better to use both strategies in your backlinking. Bookmarking is great to quickly index your site by the SE crawlers and it can also bring great traffic especially if the bookmarking site is socially active. Forums can also bring good targetted traffic.

I would say forum is good. But if you are doing bookmarks on Good PR websites then it will help you in getting crawl your website fast.

Social bookmarking and forum posting are two completely different techniques. I wonder, on what grounds you are comparing them. But if I have to choose for one, I would go for forum posting. It allows me two way communication with people of similar interests.

Even before Google updates in the last couple of years, the question shows a fundamentaly mis-understanding of effective backlinking!

To do effective backlinking, it needs to be done in a way that it not obvious to the search engines, because if they can see that you are doing it for your own site, they will penalise you, because it's obviously against their policy.

So, to do backlinking that looks natural (ie. looks like other people are doing it, not you), you need to use a wide variety of DIFFERENT types of backlinks. So any question of which one type of backlinks is "better" is the wrong question . . . if you do lots of social bookmarks and nothing else, Google will penalise you, if you do lots of forum links and nothing else, Google will penalise you!

So the correct answer is BOTH, and other types as well. You need to do a LOT of different types of backlinks, including the two you mention, and articles, video, video embeds, document shares, blog comments, directory submission, RSS feeds, and others. You need to do ALL of those, not just one type!!!

In terms of effective backlinking, having a variety of of backlinks is the best way to go. But posting in targeted forums has the additional advantage of bringing good traffic to your site.

As i know both are helpful for SEO. Social Bookmarking helps you to get a good traffic and if the Social Bookmarking site is do-follow then its also helps you to get quality Backlinks. Forum posting helps you to get quality back links if the Forum Page Rank is good and If the Forum is do-follow. You can also get a good traffic from Forum posting if the traffic of the Forum is high.

While creating forum backlinks, should we use forum posts or profile backlinks? There are many xrumer guys offering thousands of profile backlinks. Are they really helpful?
and most of the forums use no-follow nowadays, how can they help in serp?

I believe forum posting is more effective while social bookmarking does not seem really work in SEO, backlink and traffic. The impact of social bookmarking seem to be lower compare to last time

Both can be considered as methods that can help you to build your links. About their effectiveness, it would depend on your own tests. I think differently, forums is most spam by different members and its effectiveness become less after anti-spamming update known as google penguin. Similarly bookmarking on high PR website is effective.

Everyone must understand that both are very important in terms of indexing,branding,online presence and connections. In my opinion, one should learn how to make a awesome post that would get the attention of everybody (NOT SPAM) instead of asking oneself what is more effective, SB or FP

Both are equal, the only problem on social bookmarking are:
1. the links and serp rank are only temporary, i did a massive sb linking.. All sb sites are quality and has high PR unfortunately, links were removed or links were there but the effect in ranking is temporary.

2. Forum Posting same as social bookmarking. You need to update or post everyday so your links will ping(im talking about your sig) on the search engine.

Both are equally important to me. Social networks provides tons of visitor to my sites. On the other hand forums provide targeted traffic. This two source are really working and reliable.
