Hi, I'm pretty desperate for some advise! As of yesterday we have lost much of our google ranking on virtually all our keyword terms. Bit of background info - Beginning of last month we re-released our website completely rewritten/rehosted and it actually performs a different function now. Before it was an in-depth brochure site written in html and hosted on a windows platform now it is written in on a custom php platform, hosted in a different country, and has a database attached to it/CMS etc. Could it be that google will take a while to reindex the pages and in a week or two we'll be repositioned in some way or has the site been taken down the ranks permanently? Does anyone have any past experience with this happening? any advice is much appreciated? url www dot bighilladventures dot com
thanks in advance,

Karl

    Karl,

I just had a quick look at your site in Google.

Whoever gave the go ahead to use that CMS should be shot.

    Its horrible.

None of your pages reflect the content on the page. You've got completely non sensicle description tags ...eg "Sleeps 4, 50Msq, 0 bedroom, 0 bathroom, Mountain view, Parking, Internet, Washing Machine"

    That doesnt mean anything.

Not to mention your page names are ALL the same.

    eg

    /property.php?id_property=
    /resort.php?id_resort=

That was just a quick look. I havent even begun to scratch the surface.

    You have two choices...

    1. Roll back
    2. Fix whats in place

Its obvious whoever implemented that system gave NO consideration to SEO whatsover.

    Good luck.

Hi John, thanks for having a look - this is a serious worry. As far as external link building goes we have done a pretty good job (well at least I thought we had) do you think these sort of design oversights really could affect our search results in such a mjor way?

I'm looking for someone to review the site SEO wise do you know anyone you could recommend,

      thanks again,

      Karl

You must keep the same structure of the website or to perform redirects, from the old version of the site, to the new one.

I reccomend you some pretty urls and backlinks with a varied anchor text to categories, not just to root domain.

Karl, your offsite optimization efforts will be pointless until you fix the issues ONSITE.

Its ALWAYS onsite first, get that right, THEN begin the offsite.

You're essentially trying to race a hyundai excel in nascar. Its just not gonna happen.

The issues you have are far to complex to try and explain here in the forum. Infact, surely this is a business with allocated budgets yes? If so, get off the forum, and get professional help. You're going to need it.

As I said before, you have two options...

    1. Rollback
    2. Fix what you have in place.

You wont fix it here by asking on a public forum.

Judging from your tags at the site, the maker of the system on your website doesn't seem to know the purpose of tags at all. Everything that John Romaine posted is correct. Whoever that is he should be shot for ruining your website like that.

In addition to the above discussion, I Just want to say that introducing big changes into website results a dwindles rankings... So, do what these guys are saying. As soon Google recognizes your well developed ranking, you will start making money.
