Hello, a few days ago reading a thread here a guy suggested that shared hosting might affect SEO, I think this guy didin't affirm it, but he suggested that theory

What do you think?

There are some negative affects that could occur from using shared hosting but it is not really common as most larger hosting companies monitor this type of thing closely.

The main thing being the sharded ip flagged as spam for whatever reason. If/when this happens, every site hosted on the ip is affected by it.

I personally believe that google does look at IP of your server to assign authority to your site. Different classes of IP addresses have different authority in eyes of search engines.

The other SEO issues could come up with shared IP if you host multiple blogs/sites on the same shared IP server and link these sites together. To my understanding Google will not treat this links as powerful as they would treat them if they came from different IP addresses (especially from different class of IP addresses)

I would never link my sites if they are sitting on the same server... that is my SEO motto I'm living by. ;-)

I do not interlink my sites that are sitting on the same server too.

      Interesting. Thanks.

I also suspect that if the shared hosting is slow (or is down often), it will affect SEO or even link performance. I don't have any irrefutable evidence right now but that's the conclusion the clues from my sites point me to.

The only time shared hosting will affect anything related to SEO is when you have a bunch of shady link farms setup trying to game the search engines. Other than that, there's no need for so called "SEO Hosting" etc.
