SEO software may help you to build back link more but the back links are not quality full for good page rank. It is better to use manual process to create quality backlinks.

I think it is just the matter of finding what works and not in SEO. They all works if just they are being done correctly.

Here is my opinion on the software. They work, but they will not give you high PR pages. For manual work, bookmarks, directories, articles, web 2.0 they work good. They basically cut down the work you do dramatically. However, if you put garbage content where you are getting links, your link will be garbage.

My own opinion is that software only works for article creation. I would stay away from any sort of automatic link building.

I used to use several link building software's , after latest Google algorithm change I only use for social bookmarking and RSS feed, you better of to build link manually with unique content...

Automated softwares still works but you have to know how to use them properly. I also stick on tier2 only with automated tools.

Some seo software may work and some may not.

Depends on what the software does. For example, these days Xrumer software can be hit and miss, usually miss and the consequences are severe if you don't know what your doing.

That said, automated tools can take some of the rigors of link building out of the equation--but again--best used in moderation and not depended upon.

I think what the OP is asking is only about rank checking software and such. Not linkbuilding software. In short, yes they work, but you need to make sure that you are using correct geo proxies if you want an accurate result. For example, If you are checking if your site is ranking well in the UK, then you will need UK proxies as they will be running of googles UK datacenters, thus giving you the results as if you are in the UK. I don not like to build backlinks using any software. Manual good quality backlinks worth my time and work. Huge number of low quality backlinks can do very little. On the other hand good quality backlinks brings success for a very long time.
