Does the link in the signature here at Warrior forums helps in improving SERP results?

It counts as a backlink, but you will need to do MUCH more than simply having a signature link to gain SEO traction.

      Is it a do-follow or a no-follow?
and other than backlinking and optimizing the page what should we do?
      Thanks in advance

in this forum it is do follow, but it varies with different forum policies. you need to do a lot and lot and just forum backlinks are not going to help you much

Those are the two biggest things you need to do. Make sure your pages are optimized for the keywords you are trying to rank, and then build lots of backlinks.

Backlinks from Web 2.0's seem to be working pretty well right now, so I'd give those a shot.

EC, you are basically asking how to do effective SEO.

That is a big topic and you need to begin by reading the sticky threads at the top of the page here:

Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

SEO isn't about one sig link here or there and you need to INVEST the time and EFFORT to get an understanding of it.

Do you really think Google would list Yahoo or Bing first should someone search for "best search engine"?

I'm sure your 96 (as it stands right now) posts/backlinks have had no effect whatsoever.

Even though WF links are dofollow, forum backlinks in general are pretty weak.

To a certain extent it does, if you really want to increase in SERP'S. Your best bet is to only post on marketing related sites. Web 2.0 definitely works as well. Diversify your linking structure as the penguin update is very sensitive to how links are being built over time.

If your posts are valuable, other members will visit your website and link to your content, which will improve your rankings.

Forum Signatures were their weight in gold till Penguin. These days they have some merit when matched with other links especially from Web 2.0 and social sites. One of my sites tanked after Penguin 3 update to 20% of its traffic and it has links from forum signatures as well as a mix of other links and this site had been going strong for 10 years and had solid content.

I can't say I've noticed any particular increase in SERPS from posting on the forum and I guess I've looked to some extent, however I have noticed that if I write either a thread or become involved in a post that my site receives visits from the forum the following day.

That number is increased exponentially, dependant on how knowledgable or helpful said thread or post was, plus of course the actual post popularity.

This forum can do so many things for us, if we use it correctly, you forum signature is just one of the tools, but to get anything from it, make every post count.

From my experiences, yes it helps. But I just don't have signatures on 1-2 forums. But a plenty of them... nd I have posts on few high PR threads too, so it always get me some extra link juice.

And as others says, if you make a good quality post, people like your answers and visit the site in you signature which gets you good no. of visitors too.

It doesn't help but you still add the irrelevant link in your sig., lol.

You would have better luck with an ice-cream cake anchor-text sig. on a Weight Watchers forum.

Have you actually split tested the 'relevancy' myth when it comes to backlinking, or are you just saying this by guessing? People seem to think Google is overcomplicated, when in fact, it isn't.

Show me a real life example where you split tested this relevancy myth, with better results for relevant sites linking to your own.

I really would like to see proof of the difference, thanks.

You want to see an SEO split-test?

How about a randomized, placebo controlled trial?

          Good luck with that...

You're not going to get that in SEO because we don't control the variables.

But if you do enough reverse engineering you'll see that Linking Domain Relevancy is NOT a myth...it's a HUGE ranking factor.

In fact, an ex-Google employee said that "Relevancy is the new PR":
Relevance is the new PR - Says an Ex-Googler

And getting too many links from unrelated sites may be a Penguin factor:

From my own testing I've found that you can rank with fewer links if they're super-relevant.

Besides, our goal here is to have a NATURAL looking link profile.

And nothing looks less natural than having 90% of your link coming from unrelated sites.

This is another one of those 'SEO truths' that makes some sense at first glance - but none whatsoever when you hold it up to scrutiny.

In Google rankings were all about 'natural looking link profiles' then surely the easiest way to rank would be 'by being natural.' That way you'd have a 'natural looking profile' and rank high.

I agree that the best way to "look natural" is to actually "be natural"...but it's easier said than done.

Do you have a site ranking for tough keyword that you've ranked simply by posting outstanding content?

              Didn't think so.

So that means you need to build links.

And while you're doing that, doesn't it make sense to make your links look as natural as possible?

Keep in mind that the Google Webmaster Tools message says:

              Unnatural Links Detected

So why would you build an unnatural link profile again?

Actually, that is big part of ranking over the long-term.

              Obviously, it's not enough.

If you naturally acquired 2 links you're not going to rank for "auto insurance".

You obviously need authority, trust, brand signals etc. to rank.

But a natural link profile helps you rank in the first place....but more importantly...makes your site more durable to updates.

You're trying to make a case against a natural looking link profile?

              Good luck with that...

When people are reading your comments and blogs, they tend to click on the link you provide on your signature.

It will not only help your website to rank on search engines, but it will help you to increase your sales rate. That is why you need to make a short and brief signature to attract other users.

I doubt the value of a WF signature backlink other than the traffic it generates. Nearly all the sub-pages have 0 or N/A PR anyway.

Also bear in mind that an exact match keyword signature is against Google's ToS.
