Simply question. Is paying $300 a year to Yahoo to be listed in their directory worth it ? I understand if you submit your url to their free submission service, it could take a year to even get reviewed... Is that true ? I did submit to dmoz. Any advice for a new member ?

  • I think that it usually is beneficial if you have the $300 to invest. It definitely helps with your visibility within Yahoo and Bing. Do you get a lot of traffic from Yahoo? Do you want more? Is the traffic that you get from Yahoo converting into $$ for your business?

It's definitely up to you but I personally have seen an increase in traffic after subscribing. I hope this helps!

    • thanks AMacGirl How much did it help? Did you go from 1000 to 1,000,000 or 100, 1,000 ? I heard they were good for back linking. Is that correct ?
  • In some industries I have seen great movements from having a Yahoo directory listing but in others not so much so.

I generally do not bother any more and invest the $300 for that sites SEO on what we know brings results.

    • This would be for an iOS app store. It is a young site and growing fast.
  • Yes it does help.
  • NO its not worth it. Why would you spend 300 dollars to be added to Yahoo's directory for a year when you most likely won't see any quantifiable results. There are much better ways to spend your money.

    • Like what? your link pyramids ?

If you're building a real website, then yes Yahoo Directory is worth it. I've had sites receive significant SE traffic with nothing but content and two links from Yahoo and BOTW. Google values those links.
    • You little ****.

If you liked my marketing firm's copy, then send me a PM telling me you liked it but don't steal it.

Consider this your warning to change the copy by 7/30 or I'll hand you off to my lawyer.

No here's what I taken from various case studies: It has no benefits, other than generating a bit traffic. It won't help you in the SERPs for an established site, it's only for new sites who need to build trust to start their link building. Worth $300? Nope.
  • It's a big deal and it's a really legit backlink...

The question of 'worth it' depends on the value of your traffic.

I wouldn't expect to get traffic from the link, but it does give credibility to the search engines(no matter what anyone might say to the contrary)...

If you're working on an authority site, it makes sense to me... You might also ask yourself if a site is worth pursuing, if you can't justify spending $300 for a directory listing.

Remember that Google loves quality, and not too many spam sites are going to bother with such a listing.

    For what it's worth...
  • One thing I know...Google likes that link and if you have a diverse link profile already, you should see a jump in the SERPS.

    • This thread is a tad funny. First, people complain google
hates paid links. Then they say go ahead. Spend 300 smacks
on a directory. That you must keep paying, year after year.

When is the last time yahoo pulled any good stuff from its
directory? The last Ice Age? Man yahoo is in the tank,
so bad that they have to hire google's staff.

I was lucky. I got in the directory for free years ago. Link
still there. Not worth crapola. Man yahoo was the shiznit back
in '97, weren't they? How the might have fallen.

And I mean not worth crapola.

Giving Mike Grant $300 bucks for "something" is going to
last far more and be much better than 300 bucks to Wahoo!

  • Just try to inspect your main competitors backlinks profile, I saw many sites rank well if listed on Yahoo Directory.
