Repeated articles

Hi guys,
One of my sites: Thailand Car Pickup & SUV Dealer Toyota Vigo Hilux Exporter was penalized by two Google updates and disappeared from first 100 and 200 results. Some of the friends suggested that I start fresh with a clean slate so I have followed their advise and created this new site: Toyota Prado VX. The site is doing well so I don't want to rock the boat and do something that is not correct.

I noticed that many sites that are ranking high have articles that are copied again and again on their sites with minor modifications. For instance I have country pages for all the countries we export to. Some of the information is the same. For instance I have a page on ZImbabwe cars for sale and another Trinidad cars for sale. Can I get away with changing just the country name on two articles? If yes how about doing this with some 140 countries that we export to. I dread sitting down writing custom content for each country but will do so if that is what is needed. Any expert advise would be greatly appreciated.

  • I think it is not safe to do so.

    Until you get around to writing custom content for each country, I suggest you NOINDEX the country pages.

    Instead you can consolidate all the countries onto 1 main "car export" page where you list the countries. You can even put the <h2> tags around your country names.
  • If you can't write unique content for each country you ship too, then why bother having all those pages? Sounds to me like your old site got hit by Panda, not Penguin. If you did have all that duplicate content...

    I would NOINDEX those pages, but honestly, content rules all, so I would also write a unique content page for each country then remove the NOINDEX tax for those pages. That would be the best long term strategy...
