Analyzing expired domains

I'm currently looking for some expired domains for use in a private network and I've got a quick question. Sorry if it's been asked here already but I ran a quick search of the forum and couldn't find the info I was looking for.

I've heard that when deciding whether an expired domain is worth purchasing it is best to avoid domains that have been dropped or a least avoid domains that have been dropped more than once. Is this correct and if so what is the reason for this?

To put this question into an example say I've found a domain that looks good in all other respects (such as a non-faked high page rank and quality backlinks that look as if they will remain in place etc.) but when I check whois domain tools it tells me that the domain has been dropped twice. Is this a reason to make me think twice about purchasing the domain and if so then why?

Thanks,
Ali

    Hi,

If you have found a domain name from Auction or from any where, You have to look at many thing, You have to check Fake PR , May be the PR could be fake, You have to check back links authority that the back links pointing to your website is orignal and have worth or not ?
Try to check that domain is hit by penguin or Panda penalty before ?

You need to be very concious about checking every thing for your website.

If it has been dropped twice then it could have multiple reasons like, owner could have less resources, Owner could have some problem in paying or may be death of owner.

You need to check domain authority, Do not look about domain drop !

    Thanks

Yeah I'm aware that you need to check other things to do with the domain but I was asking specifically about the domain being dropped.

I'm not sure if it should be completely ignored as I've heard from a few people that it should be taken into consideration.

Has anyone else got any thoughts about this?

      Thanks

Depends on what you are using it for. If you are using the dropped domain for making your own site that you hope to rank in Google then it may not be the best of ideas to buy it. But if you are using it for some other purpose (for example, hosting a private forum of only your customers etc - maybe this was not the best example but I hope you see my point) then may not hurt.

So rather than asking what is the right thing to go for, it may be a good idea to ask why do you want it. Once you know the why, the what part becomess a lot clearer.

          Hi Fred,

I am using these expired domains to put together a private network to help rank my money sites.

You say that it may not be a good idea to use it to rank in google but why is this? Why would a domain that has been dropped be less powerful than one that has not if it still has some powerful backlinks pointing to it?

          Thanks
