Traffic Increased 3x After PR Update

One of my site recovered from its previous penalty and its traffic increased its traffic to 300%+ The number of 1st page results (top 10) results I have is now 14 keywords (possibly more but from my rank tracker, of the keywords I am tracking, 14 are in the top 10).

I think that this is due to the PR update yesterday. But I don't understand how a PR update can help to lift me from my penalty. However, I am elated that this is happening.

I hope it lasts and that SERP doesn't crash down again tomorrow.

What is your opinion?

  • Interesting. With Google, no one knows. Best just to keep checking your rankings periodically and just keep doing what you are doing. Others might be experiencing the same and may post in here shortly.
  • You can scale up your method in increasing traffic and monetizing it.

    • Hi, it's great news about your site and I hope it stays there. However I have found in the past that my sites get a serp boost usually about 3 days before any pr update and then they settle down back to where they were before if there has been any sort of penalty on them. I really hope this isn't the case this time for both of us. My site went from 80 visitors a day to 600 as long tail keywords have gone manic. Although this is great I'm not gonna get too excited just yet. Hope your site stays up there.
  • You is a lucky man.

    • The bad news is that I have created 1 more site when the penalty struck for the same keyword. Hence, I now have 2 sites targeting the same keywords. The 1st site (previously penalized one) is ranked top 3. While the 2nd site is ranked 20.

I intend to do it via local commerce. I don't want to depend on adsense. After much thought, I think I will do it via a special offers section, similar to how WSO works, except that I will be doing physical products from retailers instead.

I hope so too. Everything right now is +10 +20 +30 +40. My rank tracker is lighting up green. Loving it so far. Hope it stays that way.

However, it seems that only this penalized site is being affected (positively). My other sites are stable. So I am slightly more optimistic that it will stick.

It's hard work though. Though, sometimes with SEO, simply doing hardwork (which I did for several weeks/months) is not enough. Didn't show much effect (in SERP) previously. Thought all my hard work was for nothing. Was about to give up. Happy to see that it counts for something.

Oh. Also, after this PR update, my penalized site increase from PR0 to PR3. Not sure if it has anything to do with my recovery.

  • You guys are acting as if the Google toolbar update yesterday was an update to the Real pagerank of a site. It wasn't and NEVER is. Pagerank updates happen every day internally to Google.

IF you finally saw a PR update then you got more links over the last three months and thats the reason for your site going up not because the public toolbar updated yesterday.

think about it of all the people building links to their site organically or manually weren't a few going to see increases yesterday whether there was a PR toolbar update or not? Of course. As they say correlation does not mean causation.

Some of you are just so way off its unbelievable even proposing that PR updates "take away" penalties

  • Like Mike said, PR is updated every single day. Google just shares the information with us once every several months, and even that is lagging behind by a few months.

Your ranking increase on the same day as a PR update is just a happy coincidence.

    • Yes. I understand that the PR is updated every single day and yesterday was just the day (1 of a few per year) that the PR information was shared with the public. And that it shouldn't lift penalties.

I suppose the ranking increase may be attributable to some other update/ tweaks that the engineers at Google must have done concurrently as we well (or my penalty expired). I believe this because I have not been doing back-linking or any work to my 1st site (the penalized one) ever since I created my 2nd site.

Happy coincidence. Now, back to work.

  • It has nothing to do with PR update. It has been a coincidence that your penalty removal or ranking increase has been on the same date with PR update. The PR update only reveals what it has already been there once in three months. And what we see from 0 to 10 PR is not as it is being seen on Google. They know the actual PR of a page every second, but they announce it on a rough 0 to 10 number every 3 months. Even if my PR and your PR are the same, it doesn't mean we exactly have the same PR. Rather than that, it is not an event that something extra is going on. Nothing extra, just presenting the numbers to the public!
  • I understand pr updates everyday and one has nothing to do with other but I saw slight traffic drop. Not average fluctuation.

Algo changes everyday also. Not sure if there was a "major" refresh. Seems more like a small tweak. I'm just guessing here but I did have traffic change also.
  • Great.. Hope my site also gets +300 increased traffic.
