Seriously getting tired of the spam that is sticking here in the SEO forum.

At least 50% of the post in the SEO forum are spam & it doesn't look like anyone cares enough to clean it up.

I've stopped reporting spam because there's just so much of it & you have to wait between reporting each individual spam.

Might be time for a voluntarily vacation, I'm getting tired of sifting through the spam.

  • I report multiple spam posts each day. If ever member did the same, it would get rid of 99% of the rubbish and make this forum much better for everyone.

    • hard to stay ahead of it. The forum is just too big.

      What would help would be to up the minimums for adding
      links and sigs. Like 500 posts for any sig, or 3 month membership.
      Or, pay $50 upfront for war room, then have it come with perks.

      Problem is, the spam comes in many forums. Some clown yesterday
      just made a whole bunch of nonsense posts...one even informing
      us the biggest global ad network is google adwords. Sure. Like
      we need a thread for that.

      The nonsense posts are worse than spam.

      I hate the dead threads resurrected for some reason.

      Like I said above, that will never work (never).

      Spammers are here for one thing (links), cut them off at the links & they'll stop posting fake questions & spamming their links.

      Allowing the links in the first place tells me nobody is serious about fixing the spam problem.

      The problem isn't average Warrior Forum members reporting the spam.

      The problem is exactly what Paulgl posted above, Warrior Forum makes it so dang easy to spam, they are literally asking for most of the spam by allowing spammers to freely post crap without paying a penny & without having very many forum post.

      I'm a Mod. on the largest hobby forum in my niche (right at 50% member count as Warrior Forum), it's not difficult to control spam.

      Links are the only thing a spammer cares about, control the links & it controls most of the crap being posted here on Warrior Forum.

      By giving spammers ammo. (links) nobody is trying to reduce spam, it's that simple.

      I like the WF, but I'm not going to waste my time digging through page after page of fake questions & spam links, I can tolerate a few pages, but man it's seriously got to be at least 50% of the forum is junk.

      Also, those stickies at the top of the forum are not the answer.

    • You are right. Such new people give "black mark" to other new guys join forum to gather and share more knowledge about SEO and IM.

  • I started a thread about the multi tiered link building video tutorial in my signature that was deleted by the mods as overly promotional.

    I thought it would be of great value to the community and is better than any link building based WSO (feel free to call bullshit on that claim) but it was deleted even though the response to the thread was exceptional.

    Yet the spam that offers no value at all remains?

      It was overly promotional. If you start threads to post links to your own videos, they will get deleted every single time, and that is the way it should be. If it was any other way, people would be starting threads with links to their own blogs and sites all day long to try to take traffic from WF. If you want to promote something, sell a WSO, enter it in the Warrior For Hire section, or put it in your signature.

      If someone else finds it, thinks it is useful, and posts it themselves, then it will stay. Doing it yourself, is kind of lame.

      Your video wasn't necessarily bad, but it is the same rehashed information you can already find all over the place here. So either way, I don't really see any value to it staying posted.

  • I'm with you on this . I am probably going to take a vacation as I really don't see anything constructive going on in almost any thread and its been ages since there was anything to learn from threads. Its not just the obvious spam though. Its the overall quality of this part of the forum. It has nose dived. Besides the obvious spam there are people playing dumb, making one sentence comments and talking pure rubbish and all to get a signature link.

    I'm sorry but you CANNOT learn SEO on this forum anymore if you ever could.Over the last week I have read that

    spam links work fine to rank sites
    when PR is updated your penalties will go away
    Content is what gives you a high pagerank (this one just can't die)
    SEO is dead
    SEO is dying
    Link building is dead
    Forum owners are greedy for not allowing spamming of links on their site
    Links no longer matter because google goes off social signals instead
    Paul and Angela links are back

    and Drumroll please...........

    You don't need to worry about links because just content with no links will rank you. (I don't mean non organic links I mean NO LINKS whatsoever)

    Some of the posters are just brain dead or as I said talking garbage just for a forum sig link and to boot I have caught two people linking to thier own site that didn't have the common sense to lock up their whois records to not reveal they are owned by the same person/company.

    Stupid, stupid , stupid stuff. Making the Board look like a kiddie board. I am not going to say that democracy is bad where everyone has the same voice but right now its a detriment that even a kid on summer break can sign in and spout what they know nothing about and get a sig or incontext link.

  • Two ideas popped into my head that could help the SEO forum:

    1. Establish a senior SEO forum where you need a substantially higher amount of posts to get access.
    2. Assign more moderators to patrol this forum. To provide incentive, give them some kind of perk or compensation so that complaints are seen after in a shorter amount of time.

      2. If it was up to most of the moderators, the SEO subforum would be deleted. They probably could use an extra few people with no power other than to delete worthless posts and spam, but in their position, how do you find someone trustworthy enough to do that?
  • I think mods are doing a pretty good job considering forums are easy targets for spamming. WF is also using outdated vbulletin software and there's lots of bots that can easily spam the crap out of it.

    • I think he is referring to new posters coming here and sneaking a link in a generic post. It's obvious what they are doing.

      Admin should set the forum so posters who have an account for under 3 months / 300 posts before they can post any links.

      I've been a member here for awhile and sometimes I'll throw my services in a thread talking about a subject that I deal with. That might be considered spam (self plug), but at least it is helpful. Some might consider it spam,,,
  • Is it surprising, considering the idiotic ideas about SEO that promoted here? Why, exactly, would a forum that has so members that advocate spam link building be immune from it?

    Notice the guy has 80+ approved post (spam). I don't even have to look at the rest of his forum post to know he's a full time spammer, normal people/members don't post copy/paste crap like that.

  • Simple fix would be to only allow people with war room membership to have links in their signatures.

      Or, make the entire sig. a monthly paid subscription, that way the spammers will never have links that stick longer than a month. That alone would instantly thin out the spammers.

    • That would fix didley squat, people will just coff up the $ and spam, restricting links is probably only going to hurt the genuine people, and as everybody has said reporting the spam now is a full time hobby that you just about give up on. By the time you log in, spend most of your time reporting the crap, it's time to go or your sick of it.

      Half the problem is not staying on top of it and by that if they smell an in they come from miles around like fleas.

      + more mods per forum would be a good start, then bury the buggers one by one until the war is won.

      just keep in mind one mans trash is another mans treasure.

    Paid signature links sound like a great way to reduce spam but the opposite might be true, cause then people just post as much until they can leave a link inside the posts. Must say I feel bad for the mods who have to clean the mess up each day. Not sure how it works here but at many other forums it's a volunteer job to be a moderator, pffff.
  • At least we're seeing serious guys here discussing this topic I've reported many spam topics recently but things just getting worse. Paid membership to place links in signatures or raise the bar to at least 100 posts or so are the best solutions I could think of.

    I don't mean to promote anything here but just look at the way BHW runs. They're only 2nd to WF in terms of traffic and members but to be honest, the information being shared there are so much better. The reason? Spammers can't survive there because if they want a link in their sigs, they will have to pay money for that. And the mods are much stricter. Perhaps it's time to remake WF into a much more serious place than a playground for spammers.

    Just my 2 cents.
  • Having a minimum number of posts to be able to post a sig can be harmful too, they would just probably post nonsense posts/replies just to reach the minimum and thus increasing spam posts/replies.

    And for the having a paid sig, I don't like that at all, paying just to be able to have a sig.


    I'm also guilty, because I don't flag spam posts here. I'm here almost everyday but I rarely psot a reply. Tech84 <- lurker lol!

  • Reading the title, I was about to say that flagging spam can be a little too subjective at times.. but when I saw Yukon's screenshot... well it made me eat my thoughts.. spammers can be a little to obvious most of the time lol. I also remember a spam one time with random letters on the title and on the body, there was no sig as well. Seriously what are they after for with that type of spam?

    P.S. spammers won't pay to have sig. links enabled.
  • The way I avoid the spam here is very simple.

    Take Mike Friedman.
    Take Yukon.
    Take Mike Anthony.
    Take Niko.
    Take Alexa Smith.

    Go to their profiles - click statistics - click find all posts - save that to favorites in a specially created folder.

    Get up every morning and read their latest posts. This is the fastest way to get the best info on warrior forum. The humor is great too. One of the best parts is where they bust spammers balls for being spammers. I love it

    Seriously give this stalking method a try and drink straight from the well. You'll learn this business a lot faster and be glad you did.

  • The problem with the paid signature idea is this is a marketing forum, and to be honest the majority of users do not abuse it. Believe it or not, once in awhile I do find something useful and/or interesting in someone's signature. I mostly ignore them, but every now and then there is something good. Making people pay for a signature kind of goes against the idea of the forum. I could care less either way, but I don't think signatures need to go.

    I think you also cannot turn off links in messages because from time to time one of us wants to link out to something we found. Maybe a new update from Google, an interesting case-study at some site, or embedding a video clip from The Last Dragon (the best good-bad movie ever made, slightly edging out Big Trouble in Little China, and Anaconda).

    The moderators have a big job in such a popular forum. Everyone can help by reporting spam with the little triangle button on posts. More people doing that would help a lot. It would also be nice if they removed the 60 second limit on reporting spam. A lot of times after reporting one, I forget about the others or simply do not feel like waiting before the 60 seconds runs out.

    A few extra moderators with just the ability to remove posts would probably help (leave the banning and super banning to the mods that currently have that ability), but I don't know how you decide who to trust with that power. You have to make sure they are honest enough to delete spam, not just stuff they do not agree with.

    Shunning spammers might help a little, but 90% of them probably are just people using bots and never actually visit the forum themselves.

    If nothing else changes, you can always force yourself to spend a week at DP. After that, you probably won't think it is quite so bad here.

    • Disagree Mike. Being a marketing forum doesn't preclude being charged for advertising. Paying is just how the real world of marketing works. I'm seeing more signs of autoposting rising here. How many mods would you need to really squelch that?

      I think its highly appropriate for this board too and would improve the sig offers. If you can't afford to pay a few dollars to advertise your make money online related product or service then you don't really know how to make money online. Whats the big difference between advertising in a WSO or in a sig. Its a marketing forum and WSOs have been running for years and cost cash.

      Lets not forget either that besides the overt spamming we have alot of one sentence answers, inane questions and general but on topic posts that have no other purpose but getting the four or five signature links the posters want crawled. Mods trying to figure out whats legit and not is almost impossible. A deterrent to those who only want to get a link crawled would address that without Mods having to decide whats someone motives are and whether each post actually adds anything
  • I wonder if there could be a way for forum members to earn some sort of points for correctly identifying and reporting spam? This would also be a sign of the member's authenticity.

    By the way, I know a forum where virtually every "me too" post gets mercilessly deleted. I won't mention the name though, cause I think it's not necessary.

    • I belong to a few niche forums that do the same thing. Any post that falls along the lines of "great post" "thanks for that" "that's what I think too" gets deleted. You HAVE to use the thank you box, not add a post.

      Of course this adds a burden to the mods. You can't just go along deleting posts of x number of words or lines. Someone can give a very succinct one word or one line answer or observation that actually does add value to the thread. So mods have to read everything. Not too easy on a forum as busy as this one.
  • Okay, let me rephrase that. It is a marketing forum and the owner feels that eliminating signatures or going to a paid model goes against his vision for the forum. At least, that is what has been stated in the past. Could change someday.

    • Didn't know that. I paid to get an image link in my sig so didn't know that was the policy. If thats the stance then its not a viable option. That was my final hope for this part of the board. I don't see anything else working. BTW I know this is not one of the favorite parts of the board and I've seen some sentiments that it should go so I got a chuckle out of the description of this section a few days ago -

      "This section is for discussion about Adsense and Adword strategies, techniques, ideas...etc. Please keep all posts on topic and we'll see how this goes."

      How long has the part I bolded been there? Didn't notice that vote of confidence before LOL

    I made a comment on this issue a few days ago, in reference to all forums. For starters the Warrior Forum does not seem to be affected that much. Actually i commend them as they seem to be very good at noticing the spam and acting upon it. Many forums have stopped self posting, I could write a long list of SEO, IT and Web Design forums but dont have the energy. Currently for example the Joomla forum which i use more often is inundated with spam, I have kind of got sick of reporting it as well. The problem is there seems to be new automated tools that seem to post the spam, or at least the most noticable spam. I think though a lot of people seem to think that building links in this manner will help them build better links in order to improve there SEO post Panda and Penguin.

    However, even though i say that i think the reason for the spam is more clear. Since the new Google updates people are reluctent to use automated posters in order to gain backlinks. As a result a lot of people are hiring outsources to Build them backlinks with out looking into there credentials in how they go about doing this. This is why i find comments in the Joomla forum such as "What is Joomla SEO" when the person has a Joomla and magento web design sites that both have a Google ranking of 4 and an Alexa ranking of less that 100,000. Personally it seems that the new Google updates has affected people in every way possible and people are constanlty try to find backdoors around the issue.

      Everyone is a "moderator" If enough people report a post, it will no longer be shown. Just click the yield sign sign with the exclamation point in it, on the left under their name.
