Low Competition KW, but Page Ranks are huge

Hey guys I was doing some keyword research for a subject I'm interested in.

Huge amount of traffic for this keyword, and the competition for every related keyword is Low. However.....every related page on the front of Google has a page rank of 5, 6, 7..crazy huh?

Keep in mind these sites were Wiki, or had the keyword in the domain.

Just wondering if I should still push for that keyword.

Keyword popularity is huge, but the sites don't look to be SEO optimized at all...every gosh darn site has Low competition in google's keyword tool.

Love, Mike

Looks interesting. Why not go with a website which is rich in content and SEO.

Strong first post dude. I'm honored you chose my thread to start your SEO career

Thanks! I guess I'll give it a shot--after all I've seen some top SEO guys rank above Wiki and Amazon and other heavyweights. I'll try to keep it as rich in content as I can, I'm also trying to keep it rich in affiliate links.

If the Keyword is getting huge amounts of traffic and there are site's with high PR's at the top I would say that would be very hard to go for, even if it does say competition is low. But as mentioned above check with the likes of ahrefs.com and see how there backlinking profile looks, another key thing is content, how much content do these sites have and how related to that keyword is the content.

This are just some of the things I look at when it comes to picking easy keywords to rank for and I am no expert. Good luck if you go for it and keep us posted on how you get on.

What do you mean Google keyword competition is low? You want it high. Sounds like you need to study up on how to evaluate competition and understand what each metric means and don't assume you know what they mean.

The competition in the Google Keyword Tool has NOTHING to do with SEO. That is the level if competition for AdWords.

        This.

To see how much competition there is for a keyword, just google it and look at the number of the search results provided. That will be your competition.

Also, will you be able to monetize the traffic coming via your keyword? If it's all wiki and how-to sites rankings for it, could it be that people will be simply looking for info while searching for your term?
Just asking... since I don't know what it is anyway.

Oh geez. That is an even worse way to determine competition.

If I Google "elephants with big harry purple balls", it returns over 35 million results. Are you going to try to tell me that there are 35 million webpages targeting "elephants with big harry purple balls"?

The number of results in the index has nothing to do with competition either.

You need to analyze the top 3 results in the SERP. That is your competition.

I have always been taught you want low competition with high search volume. Can you explain why we want high competition. Thanks

I don't use the competition metric in the keyword tool for the reason I stated above, but if I was going to use it, I would also be looking for high competition too.

High competition means that there are more AdWords advertisers for that keyword, probably spending a fair amount of cash, and that means there is probably money to be made with the keyword.

          That's interesting thank you.

I didn't explain right. My KW is getting 1,000,000 searches. Related keywords anywhere from 5000 - 90,000 searches. I feel like even if it's information their searching for, I'm bound to get some sort of conversion....

No need to insult me. I'm definitely new

Nowhere in this thread did I insult you. Trust me. When I decide to insult you, you will know it.

I am going to say one thing though. From your comment above, I would bet that you are making a very common error that a lot of newbies make.

In the Google Keyword Tool, make sure you select the option for Exact Match on the keywords. I would bet you are looking at Broad Search results. I highly doubt you are finding keywords with 1,000,000 Exact Match searches with a low advertiser competition. AdWords advertisers would be all over most keywords getting that kind of volume.

Market Samurai was particularly helpful when I was doing keyword research.

At any rate, high PR pages are harder to beat. I'd rather go for a higher number of competition if the top competitors are weak.

Yeah I kind of messed up. I only use Google KW Tool. But I tracked down about 10 related keywords.

The bigger keywords getting 90,000 searches are the Low competition with high PR sites. I figured I could beat them because I don't think they're optimized

But that remains to be seen, I've only had my site up for a day.

And I can still rank other keywords, like I said the minimum # of searches was 5000. Every KW was low competition.

I don't see where you guys think Low competition is bad? Can someone explain that to me?

      First, Market Samurai is useless.

Second, high PR pages being harder to beat is a myth. You need to analyze the pages deeper than that. A page could have a high PR but not really be targeting the keyword at all.

Low competition keyword yet page rank is huge Han...?? the reason there is no competition on that key word as nobody ever tried that keyword yet people and if you are using that KW then automatically you will be at the top.

I think you should push it but not focus on just on it. Because it is tough.
There are a lot of low hanging fruit in the internet
