Question about backlink building

Hello fellow warriors!

I have some questions regarding backlink building and hope someone could answer them to me.

I always had the impression that you needed to have backlinks to your site that are of relevance to the content on your site. That's why I try to build most of my backlinks by using article directories. However, I recently discovered that many affiliates are using random blogs (with a high PR) by commenting on them to build banklinks to their own sites.

So my question is: wouldn't that make your site look suspicious to Google, when it has many backlinks from random blogs? For example, I have seen a fishing blog that had like 90% irrelevant spam comments to different SEO based sites, traveling sites, forums etc. some even to adult sites.

Wouldn't that kind of spamming a blog reduce your credibility when you left a comment (backlink) there? And wouldn't it reduce the credibility of the site that has these kinds of comments, especially when there are like 500 comments to all sorts of different sites?

I would really appreciate when someone could answer me these questions.

Thank you in advance,
Jurr

    It helps.

Funny ... that's one of the reasons why I avoid doing that, myself.

I certainly hope all my competitors continue to seek out high-PR pages on non-relevant blogs to get their backlinks!

Your suspicions are all correct, Jurr. This is a futile and risky activity.
  • Most blog comments are set to be nofollow and I believe Google has recently reduced the relevance of backlinks from blog comments to a bare minimum, even when they are set to dofollow.

A contextual dofollow link from a relevant content site is where it is at.
  • Hey, You need to choose a quality blog for the comment. Also the link you put on the blog should be related to the niche of the blog. Unrelated comment links do help but related ones do wonders.
  • Blog comments are not much effective after the last google update

    • Choose authorize, high page rank, do-follow and relevant blog sites for doing blog comments because it is very helpful for quality backlink building where low quality blog sites are not effective after the penguin updates.
  • As of now backlink relevance still doesn't really matter much. That doesn't mean it won't in the future. If you want to play things safe then aim for relevant backlinks. If you want to make money with churn and burn methods than don't worry about it. Both are solid ways to rank, just depends what your intentions are. I do a bit of both
  • You want to build your links naturally, meaning you don;t spam every blog you incounter. You comment on important blogs that are relevant to your sites topics or theme of site you own. You need more content links and guest posting links, they should improve your rankings and traffic over time. You need relevant content with relevant website links, this is a MUST if you want google rankings. If you do not believe me check google updates for yourself.
