Wordpress SEO by Yoast or SEO Ultimate Plugin??

Hello Warriors!

This is a question for the WP tech-geeks in here.

I'm really really happy with both "Wordpress SEO by Yoast" and "SEO Ultimate" from SEO Design solutions and I use them both on separate blogs...

Now my question is - Which is the best and why?
I've spend hours trying to figure out the pros and cons for the two plugins and basically there's no reviews anywhere comparing the two plugins.

Do you have experience with these two amazing plugins (good and bad)?
Have you tried using them both at the same time on a site/blog, and what was your learnings 'n' findings (good and bad)?

Best regards
#plugin #seo #seo ultimate #ultimate #wordpress #yoast

I'd use Yoast anyday. That guy really knows where he is talking about.
Despite many IM'ers use other plugins I will never go back.

Just read yoast*com or yoast*nl if you are dutch.

Most here will recommend Yoast, and it is the most feature-packed free Wordpress SEO plugin.

However, any gains one offers over the other are marginal. Don't waste a lot of time over-thinking this choice - use whichever plugin you like best.

I'm actually researching the same. I've tried both today.

Overall, I like the clarity of Yoast. SEO Ultimate breaks things into more tabs, less on one screen, I prefer to see it all. Yoast also does some nice on-page assessment.

What I like about SEO Ultimate is the Juggernaut feature, which is used to build links between pages. Running both at the same time can cause problems (from what I've read) but I have both running and I've turned off every feature in Ultimate except the Juggernaut. I'm going to test that method.

ONE VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Before testing & changing anything, be sure to BACK UP. I switched plugins and lost 250 titles and 250 descriptions on 250 pages... I didn't realize they were stored in the plugin's tables, and when I deactivated & reactivated, it was gone. That's why they've created additional plugins to help export data from these plugins.... Sheesh, plugins for plugins...

Any other thoughts on one over the other -- OR -- potential problems having both configured the way I do?

I'm a Yoast Wordpress SEO user. I avoided using this for some time as I found it complicated when I first looked at it. Then I took a second look and began using it. I am now fully converted to Yoast on all of my sites.

I'll be honest with you, I haven't tried SEO Ultimate but I absolutely love Yoast SEO for a number of reasons:

    1. It includes all SEO settings I can think and give you access to change them, all nicely packed into one plugin
    2. It's free
    3. The way you can change titles for your specific types of pages is just great.

All in all, I love the Yoast SEO plugin.

    Hello again there people!
Thanks for your feedback, always appreciated ;o)

By now I've come to the following (part) conclusion:
    SEO Ultimate is great.
    Wordpress SEO is great.

.... Soooooo, not really figured out which is the champion. It's kinda like Coke vs. Pepsi!

I came across a programmer that asked me an interesting question - Which of the plugins loads fastest (to ensure awesome PageSpeed reports)?
Not a programmer, so new question for you fellow geeks out there:

    - How to test speed performance of the plugins, to find a winner??

Looking forward to hear from you.

      I would do this:

      1) disable and remove both plugins
      2) Go to a speed test site (just google it, there are a bunch) and run the speed test to get a base line
      3) run the test 2 more times to make sure you are getting consistent numbers
      4) Install Yoast - run the test a few more times
      5) Disable and remove Yoast
      6) Install the other plugin - run the test a few times
      7) See which has better results

On another note, if you're looking into speed performance. Once you have decided on your SEO plugin install a cache plugin like W3 Total Cache - then run the speed test again. You should see some good improvement.

I use Yoast on a few sites and All in one on others. Yoast is great as an all round solution but I do not mean that in a fire and forget capacity - it has very good on page analysis which is useful when targeting keywords. If I use all in one I combine it with an on page SEO plugin such as clickbump SEO...

Both pretty good and integrate well with most themes

That's because the thread is about Yoast vs. SEO Ultimate.

I like both plugins, and I must admit that I'm not certain on which is the better. That being said, there's another dude in this thread talking about installing both plugins and working with them. I'd definitely recommend NOT doing that...

Very interesting debate. Lively as always.
I've been helping my clients install and configure Yoast SEO. It helps them boost their google ranking. Why? Because it helps them write better content that is optimized to 1 keyword. It helps them, and makes money for them.

However, SEO Ultimate has the "Deeplink Juggernaut" feature, which Yoast does not have..yet. It helps to crosslink relevant content on your site based on your chosen keywords. This is could potentially help on-page relevancy, if you have enough useful content on your site.

You can use both plugins. You just need to disable everything else in SEO Ultimate, except the "Deeplink Juggernaut". Use Yoast WordPress SEO for everything else.

Rightfully said, there's not enough reviews or comparison of these two very useful on-page optimization tools. So I'm going to write one. As soon as its ready, I will post a link here.

Disclaimer: I'm not an affiliate to anyone. SEO has nothing to do with WordPress SEO by Yoast, or SEO Ultimate, or Platinum SEO. Optimization is about knowing what gets results, and doing just that. Plugins are tools. You can also do everything by hand. None of the above is a guarantee of Google ranking.

Awesome thread! I was asking this particular question and was glad to see it was being discussed on the Warrior forum where I feel like people will be honest.

Regarding using deeplink juggernaut from seo ultimate, and disabling everything else to use Yoast, this seems like a lot of extra code to add to the site for that one feature. I would suspect that it might cause some issues at some point, and depending on how good seo ultimate is at loading just what is enabled, it probably would have an effect on performance.

I'm going to watch for a plugin to just do that one piece, as it seems like that makes more sense. I'm trying out SEO Auto Link but I don't think it has the same level of control.

I agree with Abigo, and Justinfm. Perhaps it's not the best idea to run both plugins at the same time. But for those who want SEO Ultimate features at same time as Yoast SEO, it is possible to get the best of both.

I only suggested my experience, based on the original question. Mileage obviously varies widely.

I don't expect a massive performance hit in running both plugins. As long as they are both co-configured, there will be no issues at all. I certainly haven't experienced any as a result. I don't have performance metrics to back me up yet, so you decide what works for you.

It's all a matter of preference. To be safe, only run one of either SEO plugins at a time, but if you need the added features, why not.

Also, in my opinion, if you already have good ranking in Google, no need to switch. Just do more of what you're doing, and enjoy the results.

I use both SEO Ultimate and Yoast SEO. I use SEO Ultimate on some sites where Yoast has compability problems with another plugin. Here is what I have found out:

The SEO evaluation tool (red/yellow/green light) in Yoast is very useful for SEO newbies. I can manage without it though.

But there are some things that Yoast has that is missing in SEO Ultimate:

      1. The option to add trailing slash to categories (just migrated a site from Joomla and really needed it to preserve old urls with trailing slash)

      2. The function to add canonical tag to category and tag archives (I really miss that one in SEO Ultimate - add it please!)

      3. The Bulk Editor in Yoast allows you to show items with a certain status (published/draft) which I have found useful sometimes. On the other hand, SEO Ultimate allows you to edit Robot tags (noindex/nofollow) in bulk. Also very useful.

One feature with SEO Ultimate (I think someone mentioned it before) that can be useful is the Deeplink Juggernaut that creates great internal links for you, with all the necessary settings to make it really good and not too excessive as some other plugins I've tried.

I use Yoast, but I doubt there is a big advantage to using one over the other.

To be honest, even using Yoast is more of a left over habit from my early days. I don't think it would make a lot of difference to me if I didn't use it.
