  • thanks for the share
  • I've been thinking about using the Yoast SEO plugin for a new site. What does everybody else think about using it/not using?

    • Hi Simon,
I watched your video, great research and sounds like a good strategy. Three of my money sites have been hit by the penguin update (down from page 1 to pages 11, 30 and 51). I plan to implement your strategy as I need to diversify my backlinks and anchor text and build more backlinks. Thanks again.
    • Yeah I had moved to the Yoast Plugin for several sights but now have reverted to no plugin or All in One SEO.

I had heard from a SEO guru that he believed the Yoast Plugin might being targeted.

He looks after 1000's of SEO clients and has more data to pull from.
  • Are you sure about this.?

    • All I can say, this is what I did and it worked.
  • I agree with your anchor text strategy for the most part but would be even more conservative with exact match anchor and keep to about 5% just to "future proof" a little.

    • Yeah 5% might be a good strategy.

The thing that sucks now is that you need way more links to rank.
As you need lots of phrase, generic and naked links.
  • Did you remove any of your site wide lead gen forms (if you had them)? One of the things that I noticed was that above the fold, site wide lead gen forms got crushed by penguin.

    • That is an Interesting observation, my site does have a lead capture optin that is partially above the fold.
  • SEO Yoast is very buggy..If you strip category URL, it often puts it back on its own, throwing everything out of whack.

Also it puts some rel="canonical" links in when you don't want them.

Im using SEO Ultimate now and my pages are cleaner.

I must say my site got hit with Yoast, but have no idea if this is coincidence.
  • How about SEO pressor? Would you recommend removing this plugin? I did remove it from one site after the April 24th Penguin update, but it never made any positive difference.
  • After further analysis of my site I don't think it was The Yoast Plugin.

I had lots of Interlinking on my site, I think some of my pages we given a negative score and because I had that link spread around my site, it passed that negative rep to many other pages. (This is a Theory that seems to be correct but who really knows)
  • Sorry men, this is absolutely bullshit.
Penguin is not always working day after day. Penguin updated once in a few month.
Penguin was launched only 3 times: April 2012, May 2012 and now 06 October 2012.
You can't hit by Penguin on other days and you can't recovery on other days - it can be only when Penguin run again. Read Cutts blog.
So, it was not a Penguin. Maybe Panda, Panda launched often.
