What you think is social media is a part of linkbuilding?

If you are sharing link on FB, Twitter, LinkedIN or any other website. Can you count those links as backlinks?
#linkbuilding #media #part #social

I don't think you can, not on the postings but on the profile created. That is why its good to create 70+ social media and bookmarking profiles like Digg, Reddit, Tumblr etc...having all those pointing back to a domain in powerful.

You can count them as links, why not ? But they are good only to diversify your backlinking anchor text and also to have some social media signals.

Those links are nofollow links, most people says that those links on FB, Twitter, etc. dont count at all. Just use social media for the traffic and build links by article submissions.

I agree with Nikita that Social media is very important for SEO now a days and it makes sense to use all the social media networks for achieving this. Only focusing on facebook or twitter won't work out. It's better to add as many social networks as possible. Use services like addthis, loginradius.com, gigya to achieve this. Hope this helps

Most of the social media has a no follow attribute. So your link on their page will be seen as an ordinary text. I don't think it is link building

You can argue whether or not Social media is "linkbuilding" but you can't argue that Facebook and Twitter are VERY inportant to Google in ranking your website/page.

It is believed by many that Social media likes and comments are in the top three factors in ranking your content. Bounce rate is another key factor as well.

    I hope I helped.

Just because they are no follow does not meant your should avoid them. Remember Google Like diversity with your link campaigns.

LinkedIn gives you do-follow links - 3 of them! That part of your profile, where you add your website, well you can actually add 3 different sites and include anchor text. Go check it out.

It depends. You can put your website on your Twitter profile and I think that would count as linkbuilding. You can also advertise your website on Reddit, Digg, etc. and some of those will probably count as linkbuilding too. Either way, it's important to post on social media sites because they get a lot of views everyday. If you can get some loyal followers/fans, they will check out your website and that can be a big boost for you.

Social Media Presence is a huge part of SEO and link building. Facebook likes and Twitter Retweets affect your rankings. This has been discussed over and over again and confirmed by google.

Social is the new SEO. Links from these sites are safe, powerful, and effective, plus traffic potential which again contributes to your SEO endeavors...

Ohh and if you guys really think that google doesn't keep track and count ALL links including "nofollow" you're crazy. Want proof? Do a Comment/Wiki?Bookmark blast to a site you have in Webmaster Tools. Ping them, wait a few days. Most of those are nofollow... now check webmaster tools. What's this? Links showing up with nofollow tag. Go to the site, yep nofollow on all outbound links, how can this be?

Because all links are Followed! nofollow will not get you page rank, but its still a link from an external domain. How much authority do you think a link from Wikipedia gets your site... maybe it wont boost your PR, it might not even directly help you in the SERPS, but as part of an overall SEO Campaign, I definitely want it. How about contextual nofollow links surrounded by tons of keyword rich niche related content. Think those don't work?

On nofollow tag from Webmaster Tools:

How does Google handle nofollowed links?

"In general, we don't follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web. "

Oh Really... what does "in general mean" And why are "nofollow" links showing up all over my webmaster tools accounts following link blasts if you really do not follow them. LOL!

Interesting note on Pinterest...I want to look into that.

I think part of this whole discussion comes down to quality over quantity. I think of social networks as connecting with people who like what I like and trust me. When you build those connections, you get followers who will be coming back to your site through Google searches, direct traffic, and other means, not just through your social network.

Try to get as many posts to social media sites as you can just add more attention on the ones that work for you. Don't need to be worried of the no-follow links. Search engines value those type of links and you get traffic also!

Link building + Social Media = More traffic:More sales

    That's just how I understand.

Social Media sharing or linking your profile through social media is a form of link building. The purpose of Social Media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and etc. is to build links, build relationship, and drive more traffic. Logically, if your profile on a social media site has a link towards your website and creating 60+ social media accounts that are linking to your website, then it could be called as link building.

Links on social media can't be count as backlinks as they are nofollow links but they still help in attracting traffic, but they didn't show up in search engine result. Their are bookmarking sites to help with backlinks like digg, delicious, stumble upon, reddit etc.

Nofollow links will more or less help your rankings. Google is looking for natural link building behavior, and if all you have is followed links, then that looks suspicious.

Results won't be visible overnight. Patience is key.

They might have nofollow attribute associated with them, but will certainly give boost to your rankings. Having all dofollow link will do no good for your website or blog. Maintain a decent ratio of nofollow and dofollow links.

Social Media sites don't provide backlinks as such since they are private profiles which don't influence search rankings directly.
However, if a link is heavily promoted on twitter or if one very influential person has tweeted it, it could get high ranking on search engines due to an important factor of social influence.
So even though there are not many backlinks for the link on the internet, it could get highly ranked just because it's popular on social media.
