Your site TLD is .ie so Google assumes that your site is more relevant to Google.ie searchers, and so ranks your site high in Google.ie but not Google.co.uk.

I *think* there's a way to set geographic targeting in Google web master tools - worth a look

hi barry, i think you got it there, i went into the webmaster tools and found it was set to ireland. i can seem to change it there, but i can with the other .com sites i have

do you think i would be better off registering a .com address say www.irishcountryonline.com and sending it to my irishcountry.ie nameservers to gain international ranking or would this upset google?

I'm not too familiar with the geographic targeting in Google WMT's but I don't think that you're able to target multiple countries. So if Ireland is your target market then I would leave things set as they are.

Do you mean that you're thinking about doing a 301 redirect with a new domain?

If I were you I would set up a blog on a .co.uk domain around the topic of your site, rank the blog in Google.co.uk and use that to drive traffic to your main irishCountry.ie site.

Probably because your site is focusing on Ireland it maybe a little hard. Check what your UK Alexa ranking is and maybe add the UK or England into your keywords.

thanks for the tips guys, easternodyssey when you mention adding UK or england to my keywords do you mean i should add them to the meta description which comes up underneath the site name in google?

Loads of people are having this problem at the moment, including me except google.com instead of .ie I have done all the known options like webmasters, I think hosting from a GB server helps too. And maybe getting more links from .co.uk sites....
