301 Redirect For Subpages?

I have a quick question regarding 301 redirects and how it actually works.

Say if I had site A; cnn.com

-301-

To site B; yahoo.com/subpage

Would the PR from site A transfer to the subpage of site B or would the PR go directly to the homepage of site B?

Any PR would pass to the page being redirected
to. Domains do not have PR, web pages do.

But it's an iffy proposition. PR may transfer
a little, but certainly over time it's gone.

Besides, zapping someone to a page they had
no intention of visiting is bad for the user.

Since to do a 301, you have to pay for a domain
and hosting, why not use it to backlink? The links
will be there forever. Put one link on the old site
to the new site. Instant high PR link. You could
even make it contextual/relevant for even more
    usefulness.

I have no idea why people want to use domains the
wrong way. Comes from not knowing what a 301
is really for. They hear something about it and
    go off on a tangent.

A domain is more valuable with indexed content,
even if it's just one page.

Thanks for the response, Im not planing on doing this but I did want to understand 301's a bit better.

As for the PR disappearing after a while, why would this happen? I thought it only happens when the backlink pointing to the domain being redirected is no longer there?

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another URL.

For example, if your previous website was abcdf.com and you wanted to change it to xyz.com, you'd implement a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new URL. Now whoever typed in your old URL, would automatically redirect to your new URL.

According to Matt cutts it would transfer. However I have noticed with clients that whenever you do a 301 the rankings are always affected. Again these are from my personal experiments. 301 is the most seo friendly but it comes with some drawbacks...

Thanks for the replys. One follow up question I always had on my mind.

What happens when the domain that's being 301'd expires? Will the PR of the new site go back down?

I check this morning and for some reason the both sites are showing me a PR of 0. Is this normal?

    The original PR was 3.
