Hey, not sure if this is a stupid question or not but was hoping some more experienced seo'ers could confirm/deny..

My understanding is that Google will transfer a % of page rank from an old domain to a new domain, so my next logical step was registering a ton of recently expired domains with PR3+ and 301 redirecting them at the new site..

Would that have a cumulative PR effect or would it basically just be the average of the combined PR?

(Ie - if you have 20 domains with PR 3 would it be like 20 PR3 domains linking in, or just average out to PR 3?)

It transfers the links that are pointing at those domains to the new domain. Google is not stupid though. If they see too many redirects, they'll ignore them all.

301ing a domain to your new site will pass alot of link juice to your site. However if you just buy the domains and 301 them, after a few monthes the sites that you 301ed will loss PR.

Also as a side note, you better know what to look for if you are buying old PR sites. People are selling them for a reason. Some will even have been slapped with penalties and will lose PR within a few weeks of you buying them.

    Some good thinking though!
